The Alarm - cool band!

I just discovered this band in the last few weeks. I know - I'm behind the power curve sometimes! LOL! That's one of the things I like about Siruis radio - I discover great music all the time. Heard a bunch of stuff by the Alarm on First Wave lately. Bought the Greatest Hits album. Great stuff with this band. Really good rock/pop rock tones with this band. I really like the Strat tones.

Anyone else?

The music was very good, but expectations were set way too high.

The band couldn't compete one on one with U2 and the like over time and things kinda fell apart within a few years.

Saw the Alarm open for somebody about maybe 4 years ago. Gene Loves Jezebel maybe? The original Alarm leader/lead singer was still there but he reminded you of Ozzie. The guy had gone from 5 years younger than me, to 15 years older. I hated to see that, but the show was not too bad.

Upsets me that people around this band set them up for eventual failure.

That's a shame I saw Mike Peter's when he was touring as Mike Peter's and the Poets of Justice, and that was pretty good. I've just realised it was about 20 years ago.

I used to love The Alarm! Sorry you're just now getting around to them Sickboy! Better late than never though!

I wish I could find where I read this, but I thought I remember reading back in the day, in an interview with Billy Duffy, where Billy said The Cult would not have existed if it weren't for The Alarm, as he was very inspired by The Alarm, and I thought that was very cool to read, as I was also into Billy's tone and playing back in the day, as far as straight-forward rock goes.

Loved that band.

I remember when everyone (critics) was saying that the Alarm were going to be the ones to succeed and U2 were destined to become a where are they now story. Their often sighted strength was their songwriting.

I really liked The Alarm, and I remember them getting good press, but I have a hard time believing that music critics ever suggested in large numbers that U2 would be a flash in the pan. From the release of Boy forward in the 80s, I remember mountains of positive reviews. So positive that even their negative reviews tend to only be relatively negative (i.e., we have heard better from U2 or the production is not clear, etc.).

Fabulous band that was at the top of their game in the mid 80's.

Mike Peters is now fronting Big Country. Interesting to hear how that will sound.
