Steve Vai "Some Call It Sleep" or "Call It Sleep"
It's on the Flex-Able album, devastatingly beautiful.

saddest guitar solo ever...
Well In my world...on a personal note.. Uh I played that back in school at my first Berklee student recital concert...I forgot my strap...wasn't used to playing standing up as it was and holding your guitar as you play...!!!! I got stage fright...and...I froze...literally froze...the solo was like...drip...dribble...boing....and the sounds of dropped screws, bolts, and springs came out of the guitar... no applause...silence... ahh good times. I kept at it though. I'm at the applause stage...

Didn't check every page here, but definitely agree with the "different strings" song by Rush.
Also, didn't see mention of "Still my Guitar Gently Weeps"...too obvious? |

Still one of my all time favorite solos, for what a solo SHOULD do.
Firth Of Fifth ~ Steve Hackett The Lamia ~ Steve Hackett Longing For Fire ~ Uli Roth (he makes that Strat scream in pain) Echoes ~ David Gilmour Memories ~ Joe Satriani

"Just Killing Time" by Black Label Society. Zakk Wylde's solo is just one long wail of anguish.
And his solo on "Throwin' It All Away" from his Book Of Shadows album: |

Agree with JB's "Cause We've Ended as Lovers", Roy's "Messiah", Knopfler's "Brothers in Arms", and Carlton's "Third World Man" for Steely Dan...
Others: Knopfler's Romeo and Juliet, Theme from "Coming Home", You and Your Friend, and Love Over Gold Jimi's Hey Joe Albert King's I'll Play The Blues For You Gilmour on Breathe / Time

Mikes leads have a yearning kinda sadness to me in "Nothing As It Seems" Fruciante's lead in "I Could Have Lied" is a sad one also. Last edited by Philhouse; 08-19-2011 at 03:46 PM. Reason: added a line |
