Dan Toler announced that he has ALS. The only source I have is from his FB Page but I know folks that are close to him.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear that. I was just watching a Dickey Betts DVD this afternoon and was admiring Dan's playing. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Enlightened Rogues is one of my favorite ABB records; definitely my fave post-Duane. I will say a prayer for Dan.

Sad news, Dan Toler is one of my favorite players. That tone and phrasing, especially on Greg Allman albums is so special. Truelly in a league of his own. I have the Toler brothers as well, great player not heard enough.

Isn't that the same condition Jason Becker developed? If so that seems like a very life robbing condition. As someone suffering with type 1 diabetes my whole life It hits home to hear of these kind of tragedies. Prayers honestly don't go very far. Only advancements in science has a chance to conquer human suffering.

======================== Hello Friends & Family, First of all I thank each and every one of you for being such good people and I want all of you to know I love you very much with all my heart and soul. Rhino is correct in stating that he and I happen to be in the same boat with illnesses trying to take us down. We are both fighters and a couple of strong willed men that happen to love playing music for our family, friends and fans. We both have been dealt a tough way out of this life. Jesus Christ is going to take care of the both of us and just maybe a cure will come along. Rhino has the liver to deal with and I have been diagnosed with ALS (lou gehrig disease). Neither one of us know how much time we have left but then again this is true with each and every one of us. I know in my heart without God I am doomed. I thank my wife Debby Toler for taking care of me like no other person in this world could. She has been my rock for many many years and I love Debby with all my heart and soul. Thank you Lord for having Debby in my life. I hope you people come out to Aces Aug 13th as there will be some killer picking happening for sure with pickers like Greg Poulos, Sean Chambers, Tony Tyler, Tucci Band, Matt Facciolla, my band will be there performing, Mike (louie the lip) Logan and a possible jam at the end with other fine pickers. Should be fun. Maybe Larry Reinhardt might sit in and pick one with me. Who knows who will show up and play. I love doing benefits for people that need help and I never ever thought a benefit would have to be held for me. It definetly breaks my heart but I want to thank everyone helping out with this event. Chaz Trippy, Angie and Todd Cook, Tom Mossman, Don Carrington (mr pink ball) Steve Tucci, Glenn Halverson and I know I am leaving out some names therefore please forgive me. Without our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ there is no reason to exist and He is offering everlasting life to all who believe in Him. Trust in the Lord. May God bless you all and keep you forever, Amen. Your Friend, Dan Toler

I wouldn't wish that horrible disease on my worst enemy.
Hoping for the best for Dan.

![]() he's a fine player, and a great dude. i know most of those players that will be at the benefit show, played with them too....but i am doing a concert in Key West for Lobsterfest Aug 13th, i do that show every year, and it's a nice gig in the middle of a $LOW summer, so i gotta do it. i'm gonna have to try and give him a call and wish him well. he taught me some cool stuff when i was in college. i swear, i learned just as much AT NITE playing around town with guys like Dan, Richy Kicklighter, Matt Abts, Greg Polous, Sean Chambers, etc.....as i did during the day in school. seems like old age and wild living is catching up to a lot of people i know, even me ![]() gonna be praying for Dangerous Dan. one of the least talked about Allman related guitarists, but one of my faves. i have seen him just TEAR IT UP in clubs.....a tasty player who has both FIRE and FEEL. i can't say enough good things about him, and he was always up for a jam. getting your A$$ whipped onstage by a guy like Dan will really improve your playing! but he always did it with love, never just to "cut heads" or make anyone look bad. he just tried to take you higher, and that's what we all want and need.
