Power cables

hey!

next DIY question...looking to build myself a pedal snake...goin lo-fi though...just three patch cords and then a power cord...

i want to keep hum to a minimum so i thought i would run a cord from my one spot into a cable in the snake and then connect it to the daisy chain at the pedal board...i don't want to run an extension cord through the snake so that i don't introduce AC hum into the patch cords...

i have 18gauge speaker cable like this...

would this work as a power transfer cable? slam some 6.1mm power ends on it and away we go...

or is this a pipe dream?

What's the total current draw that will be pulled across the cable? Once that is known, along with the cable length, you can calculate the voltage drop across the cable and determine if there will be a problem.

Don't do this. Low voltage (9v) doesn't travel well over long distances so you'd need almost AC cable gauge. I burned out a nice power supply by doing this, even though it seems like it would work. Just run an extension cord up front in the snake and use the cables you already have. Use Pedal Python if you want it to make it look nice and neat.

I use an AC cord in my snake and have zero hum. And I use an FX loop in the snake even!
