got this from a TGP'r on the emporium a short while ago. It is a handmade LP copy made by Scott @ SMK Musicworks in Detroit (no affiliation).

http://www.smkmusicworks.com/

I had a lengthy phone conversation with Scott and told me all about this guitar. He made it for himself, completely by hand (including the carved top, truss rod, inlays, etc.). It was never meant to be sold to the public (for obvious reasons). It just kinda slipped out there. I'm very lucky to have it.

I will go into more detail as the thread continues. Right now I'm doing daddy-daycare for the irish twins (still in diapers!). Next, mow the lawn. Then a little catch w/my oldest boy. Then I will dig into this with some good photos hopefully.

Here are some pics from the previous owner:

ok, took a few (not so good) pics of what i'm working with...probably wont get to the fun stuff til later this evening.

Yes, the case i got from Trent - from the final "Wave Goodbye" tour. I'm not a big NIN fan, just got a good deal on it.

..maple top goes from plain to flame depending upon the angle. this is a "purple-burst" nitro finish.

...i removed the strings, TP and ABR-1..

.."Lucky Charms" inlays on the headstock...

....bone nut, ebony board, jumbo frets..

[continued]

bridge pup route...

..neck route. No long tenon here. Good shot of how thick the top is.

The body is not weight relieved, however the 1 piece mahogany back has been "shaved" to lighten her up a bit.

Any idea what pups these are? I am not convinced these are the originals (more on that later).

Both these pickups are missing the cloth coil tape. Leads me to believe someone may have swapped out the magnets or tried to go Peter Green on this thing...

So Im flying blind on these pups, no idea what they are. Good vintage tone, didnt sound out of phase to me. Have not stuck a meter on them yet. Regardless, they are coming out.

Here is the control cavity. Orange drops, CTS pots..."SK 1-1-03" written inside the cavity....note the solder on the pots, and the backplate screw hole that broke through the side...

I may just gut this thing altogether and slap some Historic pots in there, and the Hovland caps I have. We'll see.

1 piece back, 3 piece semi-flamed maple neck!

Not quite a '50s profile. More like '50-ish.

Finally....

..between sick children and an otherwise hectic schedule, I managed to finish this thing up.

I decided to put the Shaws in my McCarty (at a later date) and instead went with a Firesound '60 PAF in the bridge and a double-creme handwound pup in the neck, made by a good friend and accomplished winder, who's name I won't mention to keep Larry from getting all amped up....

I am very pleased with the results. Not only does it look much better, but this thing sounds unreal and I'm not even done dialing it in.
