Your favorite guitar tone/effect moments?

Ever listen to a song and just go, "Whoa!" when something happens? I have a couple of generic responses, but my feeling never changes when I hear that song come on. I'm always anticipating that one part of the song where the guitar is just brilliant.

For me, it's the tremolo effects on How Soon Is Now by the Smiths. There's really no recording that is more perfect in terms of effect usage. That was pure genius.

The next is the when you enter the chorus on Today by Smashing Pumpkins. Biggest, coolest fuzzed out tone ever! Goosebumps every time!

Howboutchu?

"Omegaman- The Police. Right after the chorus when Andy kicks in the flanger gets me every time.

and "The Wanton Song", Zep of course, the Phase 90 with the rate all the way up on the solo is such a great sonic moment.

For something readily identifiable as an effect, it's Jimmy's solo on "Fool In The Rain" for me. Just wouldn't be the same without the Blue Box.

I don't really care for RadioHead, but when that Chugga distortion comes in during "creep" it's really a great thing. It's like a thunder clap

Eddie turning the flanger on and off during the
main riff to "Unchained".
The dual-flanger scoop during "High Landrons" by
Eric Johnson.
During the solo for "Analog Kid" by Rush when
Alex Lifeson kicked on the harmonizer.
for starters...

All of those are great. Really love the opening chords to Hear About it Later - I assume that is the MXR Flanger. Sounds fantastic.

Another one that I heard again recently was the clean guitar tones on Manic Mechanic by ZZ Top. Those give me goose bumps, especially for the late 70's. Kinda like Andy Summers came to Texas and got funky!

Tommy Bolin's badass Echoplex work on many things, but primarily Billy Cobham's "Quadrant 4".

Jeff Beck's ring mod work on 'Live w/ the Jan Hammer Group'.

+ many more things...

I absolutely love the tremolo on the main riff and the tremolo/wah during the solo on this:

But I also agree that the "Fool In The Rain" solo wouldn't be the same without the Blue Box and EVH's flanger on "Unchained" is equally memorable.

Hendrix use of effects was the first player that I noticed.
