Do you guys just not have many earthquakes over there?

Lived in SoCal all my life and I'm used to them. It kind of gets your heart going, but all-in-all unless your world is crumbling around you it's a pretty fun experience. Wasn't on the board the last time we had a good shaker over here, but I don't remember checking in later in the day to find 12 million different posts about earthquakes. I know earthquakes are more prominent here on the west coast, but do you guys just not have earthquakes over there EVER?

Are you all first timers? Your thoughts now that you've experienced one?

Not on the East coast.
Earlier in the year an earthquake occurred just north of north little rock. Was pretty cool. Reminded me of being in a boat. Like big rounder waves, but on dry land. Trees were swayin and the ground was wavin.
Thankful it wasn't any larger (pretty sure it was over 6.0) and that I was 15 miles from the epicenter.

First timer here, and if the little shaking on LI was any indication, I don't ever want to be around another one.

The buildings aren't built to earthquake code as well as they are in California, so it probably feels bigger than a comparable quake in california.

IIRC the last really big quake (8.2) in the east occured in 1812 on the New Madrid fault.

Someday Memphis, St. Louis and points in between may all dissappear in a very short amount of time.

If I was a tube dealer and my entire livelihood was tied to little fragile glass bottles, I'd be worried too! You guys will be fine. You probably won't even feel the aftershocks in LI.

I've just stacked KT88's from the floor to the ceiling to hold things up here in case of a collapse.

We felt a quake maybe about a year ago that originated outside of Toronto, and was felt in Northeast Ohio. Before that, the last one I remember in Akron was somewhere around 84-86. All I remember is I was in elementary school and remember our desks shaking and making a little bit of noise.

Nope, we don't. It's the same thing as everybody is the South panicking over an inch of snow. All depends on what you're used to.

My third earthquake, and the first one I didn't sleep through. I guess us East Coasters are like you LA folks with rain

We're more used to handling stuff that looks like this:
