BJFE Honey Bee or Analog Man KoT?

Just like the title says. Which would you prefer for a Blackface type of amp. Carr Vincent and/or Divided by 13 EDT 13/29.

I haven't played a honeybee personally but i would choose the KOT merely cuz of the price point, dual channels and tone that is probably just as good (arguably), just different.
I apologize if this is a little not helpful due to me not playing the honey bee personally.

Have both and love both. What type of sound are you going after? The Honey Bee is voiced after a vintage Supro. HB stacks absolutely amazingly with other pedals. Fun to put in front of and behind different pedals just to hear it make other pedals more awesome in different ways.

The KoT is also a great pedal. Really nice tone + as mentioned before cool getting a little extra out of it with the 2 ODs in 1 pedal and there are internal switches that let you switch between clean, OD, and distortion. The KoT is voiced after a 60s Fender Deluxe Reverb.

Both pedals are original designs and NOT based on a tube screamer. My recommendation is to get both, you can cover a ton of territory having the 2 of them. If I had to pick just one, I'd buy the honey bee. Bjorn just builds amazing pedals. If you are not exactly sure what you want for your OD tone, the KoT will give you more to work with in terms of different sounds.

It's really a coin flip, both are phenomenal pedals and you can't go wrong with either one.

Ok last thing to consider... If you already have amps with a blackface kind of vibe, it's cool to have an OD that brings a different type of voice. In other words, you've got some nice amps that cover the KoT territory, so why not add Supro to you tonal palate. The HB will still let your amp do the talking, it's just some nice spiciness to add to the flavor of some already tasty amps.

Bearfoot HBOD would be a much more economical option too. I have one and at first I didn't like it, but like nichcope said it stacks amazingly. So now it's on my pedalboard (up for trade since I don't completely need it, but probably taking it down eventually) and it's THE mid-gain overdrive I've been looking for.

I used to run a KOT into a HB and it was a great combo. I have the Bearfoot HB now and couldn't be happier with a low-mid gain drive. As mentioned it stacks really well and that's why it will probably always be on my board. Other drives come and go. There are quite a few pedals out there that do more or less what the KOT can do. If I was choosing, I'd go for the Bee.

Excellent breakdowns by nichcope.

The HBOD price point is much less of an issue now that Bearfoot also produces one.

The Honey Bee is a very unique & interesting OD option. It works well with all my amps (6v6, EL84's, etc.) & and like nichcope I find it awesome to stack after other higher gain drives.

Really depends on what sort of voicing you're going for & what else you're already using.

Both are great, and although in the low-gain niche, they are very different.
For me, Timmy+HBOD was the winning combo which made me sell the KoT.

I think of the HBOD as having an extra amp, rather than a pedal. It's not somthing I stomp on to get "MORE" in the middle of a song. To me it's a vintage sweetener that just sounds gloriously old-school. I just keep it on.

The KoT with it's two-channel setup can be a lot more. A real workhorse. But HBOD just have that thing ...that's a bit magic to me. So incredibly dynamic! /C

(To my ears though, KoT worked a lot better with my AC-15 than the HBOD. I prefer the bee with Fender amps.)

Never bonded with the KOT -- sounded kind of plain in my setup but the HBOD on on the other hand -- that thing is pure magic

I used both previously with a Fender Twin Amp and a Strat with Lollar Specials.

Ive owned both and the KOT stole the show. I will never part with it. I think the kot covers more ground with the tone knobs. When turned to the left below say 10 oclock it makes my Strat sound like a Les Paul. Thick and chunky.

I do have a question about this subject though...
Does the HoneyBee sound like the yellow channel on the KOT?
The demos I've seen of the HoneyBee remind me of the yellow side of the KOT.

Realize that you can make almost all overdrives sound similar (see the mammoth shootout of overdrives on Youtube). That said, the basic building blocks of the KOT and the HB are different, so you're going to get different sounds on the extremes and different behavior in other ways.

You can get some idea of how the KOT is going to sound without spending the money for used or waiting for your name to come up: buy another Bluesbreaker based pedal and see if you like what it does. I have an original BB (usually available for around $100 on Ebay) and it is a good sound, albeit bass reducing/mid peaky. I'm waiting for my KOT...

Both are great pedals by some stand up dudes... The yellow side of the KOT is amazing sounding. The HBOD and the range that is covers is incredible.
I had both, sold both, bought them both again and sold one of them. HBOD was what stayed on the board. With a Timmy I can get everything I need.. truly the BEST swissarmy OD combo I have personally come across.

NO matter which way you go they are both quality pedals and awesome builders.

Well... I ended up selling my KOT now as I found over time the lowend was not enough for me.
I've been doing some research as to what to get next and the HBOD is my next current pedal to try. It's in transit now so I'll try to report back soon about how it compares to the KOT.
