Cats: Are they hard headed?

I love dogs and I've never been a cat person. Now at work we have several cats and I get along with them okay, but just okay. However, now one of them keeps wanting to sit in my chair and jumps up there whenever I step away. Are all cats hard headed? Can they learn/be taught behaviors? Do I need a water gun?

To quote another cat thread - It sounds like he adopted you. Get him a cat toy and cat nip and see how the relationship turns out.

You don't need to involve a water bottle for when they are in your chair. They'll typically move themselves or you can scoot them away when sitting down. They are probably trying to be near you.
You CAN train them to an extent...get some cat treats

My cat walks in front of my monitor every 10 mins to get attention. She puts her head by my mouse to get a pet any chance she can get

We tried using water guns on Kaos, even pushed him into a sink of water....nothing.
As if to say " What...thats the best you can do?"
Just about a year now since he left us...damn I still miss him!

Sure,they're hard headed.Who isn't?

My female cat will sit right in front of my monitor blocking everything and just stare at me like i'm the problem. Then she'll get bored and start knocking stuff off my desk and eventually stretch out and crash.

Cats are, well, cats. Very intelligent, and often sticking with their own agendas. Respect it and make a friend. They're wonderful creatures and great pets.

If a cat likes your chair, just push your chair aside and get another chair. Don't blast the poor guy with water for finding a comfortable place to hang out.

Jumping in your chair? Keep an eye on that one. He's trying to phase you out.

Especially if they are males; they won't hesitate to spray their urine on anything, even a guitar if they are "pissed" at you...lol

It wouldn't bother me at all, but one thing about cats that I've known is that they will find a place that they like as their main hangout for a while, then get bored and move on to others.

That may happen here, and maybe you'll miss him.
