If you split the neck and leave the bridge in dual coil you get two really good sounds. Neck rhythm and bridge lead work really well together like that. You can't do that with the bass contour.

I really like the middle position with the neck on full humbuck and the bridge split--you can get some really nice zing/jangle out of that setting. Bridge sounds good tapped or full. I'm more partial to the full sound on the neck, but the tapped is also pretty dern good there as well. And as Jon said, there is some volume drop, but not a lot--these taps work better than pretty much any others I've heard or had. Others I've had sounded weak when tapped, but these don't. I like. I'll be keeping the Rocco I have with hopes of adding some sort of P-90 equipped Reverend some time in the distant future <sigh>.

Got this in the Rev newsletter :

"Please note: the current bolt-on Warhawks will be replaced in 2007 by a new set-neck, 24-3/4" scale version which will be available with two humbuckers or three P-90's."

I may get a Reverend again! I wouldn't be surprised if they sell a boatload of these.

It sounds like the Rocco has a Commando and a Hitman tucked away inside it...or am I just a little more confused than usual?

That is a very interesting development. I admit, to date I've thought of the imports as cheaper, less desirable images of their original USA counterparts.

This development changes the equation. I could possibly up before too long with another Rev, too.

Over the course of many years, Joe always seems to have had cool new idea up his sleeve. The more things change, the more the stay the same!

I got my new Jetstream 390 in this afternoon, and I was immediately struck by how heavy it is. It weighs almost as much as my Les Paul. I'm not sure how this is going to figure in to my enjoyment of the guitar, as the weight was one of the things that I really liked about the SSC.

The finish looks really cool. I got the metallic sparkle blue, and it looks way better in person than it does in pictures. It plays pretty well, but it's got some buzzing on the low E string. I'm sure that some of that has to do with the fact that it's strung with 9s, which feel like spaghetti. After I put some 10s on it I'll reevaluate things. I still haven't plugged it in - I'm waiting until I have a chance to change the strings.

I've been thinking about getting an SG for a while now, and got to play a few after work today. The warhawk having a different scale and neck joint will definitely make this a more interesting decision.

Fred, Reverend just sent out their newsletter saying that the current style of Warhawk (both HB & P90) was being discontinued, and that Reverend would be coming out with a set neck, 24.75" scale version in '07. Two flavors: dual humbuckers or a trio of P-90s. It goes on to say that they're still accepting orders for the current version, but not much longer.

I'm semi-surprised, since Joe has stated that the Warhawk is one of, if not the, most successful of the Stage Kings.

I've never thought of the Stage Kings as "cheaper" but somewhat "washed down" versions of the USA. The cosmetic don't do it for me like the USA's. They don't have the "retro weird" vibe anymore.

CQ, that's what I was referring to, but it probably wasn't very clear!

New Warhawk

G#bson scale, HB's, reverse-headstock....are we perchance looking at a 'War-Bird'? I'd prefer Joe to go with a more inbetween scale like Dano/PRS, but he may just have sold one to me, too.

That kinda sucks, Phil. Almost as much as a Les Paul is way too heavy. They are supposed to be 7.5 lbs.
My JS is the solid alder prototype and is pretty heavy, about like a Squier Tele. I figured the chambered production models would be lighter.
I don't play the JS that much because of the weight, though I love the Wilkinson. I had been toying with the idea of getting a maple neck model and selling my prototype, but if there is no weight benefit, there is no point.
Now I am looking hard at the three P90 set neck Warhawk with a Les Trem.

Different strokes for different folks, my friend. Only thing I would add is I have no idea what "washed down" means (those words, which you put in quotes, weren't my words).
