I'll try to snap a shot this weekend. This guitar actually has the nicest headstock of any Reverend I've ever seen

It is. I wish I was rich enough to keep 'em all, even if just to stack 'em in the corner. Every Rev I've sold I've subsequently had pangs of remorse at least at one point.

Mantaray

Hey folks, figured I'd jump in as I'm the proud new owner of a Reverend Mantaray semi-hollowbody...
http://www.reverendguitars.com/rever..._hb_fm_g1.html
this thing KILLS for $600!!! I went out on a whim (and a limb) and just went nuts, looking for the exact opposite of my current guitar (Fender James Burton "Tele" (lace sensor red/white/blue pickups) and I think this is almost as different as you can get from the Tele. Anyway, it kicks ass. My local store (Middletown Music in Middletown, DE... got to give a shout out and huge thumbs up) is the Reverend dealer in this neck of the woods.
I tried a number of different guitars in this price range and nothing came even close or felt right. I can't believe I'm playing a semi-hollow body. It's big (I'm pretty large too) but it feels and sounds awesome. Highly recommended. I'll take pics and post soon too - the Tele is getting jealous

I've been digging 335 type sounds quite a bit lately (My Morning Jacket and Silversun Pickups are the sounds I'm talking about). I know none of my guitars (Avenger, Hotshot Jr. and Rickenbacker 330) come too close to this sound. So I have a question...

Which Reverend, USA or Import, comes closest to a 335 sound? I would think the Club King HB would do it, but the clip of that guitar doesn't sound that much like a 335 to me. I realize that it is near impossible to make any real judgment from such a clip, so I thought I'd ask the experts.

I'm sorry but I don't know of any Rev that truly sounds like a 335. If that's what you want, I'd recommend the real deal.

That being said, this is likely closest:

When the 335 bug hit me, I ended up with a Johnson 335 copy for $335 inc taxes. Not quite as well made as a Rev but it has the 335 vibe and it won't kill me to keep it if/when I grow out of my 335 phase. There is very little tonal overlap between the Johnson and my CK290.

The CK is a 25 1/2" scale bolt-on, how could anyone expect it to sound like a 335?

Yep, that's my guitar. I've never played a 335 but I can tell you this thing plays and sounds really, really sweet. And it can rock out big time as well. I practice without needing to be plugged in a lot but put through the Rivera I can pull so many great tones out of it. The contour dial is also really cool. You do lose some volume but I matched it against my strat-like tele and it's convincing for a single coil. The magic is in between though - beautiful clean tones with it set in between, then add a little raunch for dirtry rhythms and then at lead time just roll up the contour full tilt. Sounds great.

I agree. This is the reason I held some doubt that the CK would do the trick, but I've not heard one in person.

I might have to give the Manta Ray a try (BTW, congratulations on your new puchase, Gasp100, and welcome to the Gallery), but it seems like that wouldn't do the trick either. The scale length is there, but the body is not big enough to get that 335 semi-hollow sound. The lack of dual volume controls is another significant differentiating factor in my eyes.

Perhaps I just need to follow Martyn's advice and look into getting a copy or save for the real deal. I just love Reverend quality so much that if I could get fairly close with a Reverend, I think I'd be satisfied.

I don't suppose the Rocco comes close...

Another vote for, "if you want a 335, buy a 335."

That being said, I've been considering for some time joining the world of new Rev owners and, as of now at least, the Manta Ray is on the top of my list. But I'm not buying anything new until after Winter NAMM (likely to be additional choices by then).

+1 on that. I played one a couple weeks ago through a Suhr Badger. I almost cried. Awesome sounding guitar, but not quite a 335.

My Reverend Flatroc just came this week, pictured on the left here...

I. Love. It.

So much... Newest big fan of Reverends right here, baby. If you haven't gotten on board, get on right now. You won't be disappointed.

Thought I'd post a heads up that I'm seriously considering listing my S-Hitman, "Wolf," for sale sometime over the next month or so, if potentially interested, keep an eye open. It's an Eastpoint with the #1 widest, and one of the thickest, skunk-stripe necks I've ever encountered on a Rev. No, I'm not going to say "hate to see it go" - whenever I read that in other folks' posts I just roll my eyes thinking, "Sure, that's why you're selling it, right?" - only that I have another guitar need to fill, no cash with which to do it, and 3 of my 9 electrics are USA Revs so something's got to give.

I was just cruising MF and figured I would add this to the 335 ideas.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tar?sku=513354

A little off beat, like Reverend. Good price.

Any way I have my idea on the Manta Ray 290, particularly in RED! But I don't need a 335.
