Steve Winwood

Just watched Clapton's Crossroads show from a year or two ago, featuring Steve Winwood. "Dear Mr. Fantasy" followed by "Had to Cry Today". Winwood always stands in my memory as a Hammond player, but damn! the man plays a mean Strat. Him and EC blending on the Blind Faith tune was utterly beautiful. The biggest smile and best playing EC did on the whole show, and Steve W. looks like a man in his early 40's. Country living is good for you!

Check out the CD and/or DVD of the Clapton/Winwood show at Madison Square Garden. Clapton and Winwood do some great double guitar work.

I had always liked Winwood but never followed him closely until I saw him play live with the traffic reunion shows in the 90s. He blew me away. Ive seen him a few times since then and he is always amazing. Such a major talent. The guy can sing with anyone, play the Hammond and guitar and hold his own with anyone. He seems no natural, music just flows from him. Awe inspiring.

There aren't enough words of praise for Mr. Winwood's abilities as a
singer guitarist and keyboardist -- he's in my top group of influences ,

I particularly love his tone on the NR Firebird

What do you call it...musicality?...his/their ability to turn a three chord progression with a trivial bridge, into a monster. It's a shame you can't see more, like what amp he's using. My guess is an Ampeg VT-40, but who knows. A minor pentatonic for almost 8 minutes!

Given his usual modesty bordering on insecurity, I'll bet Mr. Clapton would agree.

I saw him last year and he uses Fender Cybertwins. Pretty sure I saw one onstage watching the DVD of the 2010 Crossroads Festival.
