[QUOTE=bilbal;11456298]It's actually a golf towel and the secret to Santana's tone.

This head was built by a VERY well known builder. I bought it from a buddy and after having it for about 6 weeks, it blew up. I plugged it in at the studio and got the loudest, most horrible sound I have ever heard. So of course, I unplugged it and used another head for rehearsal that night. The next day I contacted the builder and we tried to troubleshoot over the phone. He decided that the best thing was to ship it to him. In the meantime, I put up a thread here for advice/ideas. Mike Whitney of Whitney Amps contacted me and offered to take a look at it before I spent the money and uncertainty of shipping such a piece.

A cpl days later, I met with Mike, who happens to live 15 mins from me. He opened it up and found that it was completely f***ed. Both OT and PT were blown, the tube heaters were fried, and a bunch of other things. It shorted out. Even the TC unit I had in the effects loop got hit and needed repair.

Mike ended up gutting the amp and rebuilding it to his version of an ODS. Once I got it back, I was very pleased with the result. Tho the amp was absolutely amazing at first, it's even tastier now. Whitney is the man and his builds should get a lot more attention than they do. Add to that, he's a fantastic dude.

Was the problem on the part of the original builder, or a power surge? Also curious why it was not sent back to the original builder? Glad it sounds great now.

Sweet... heard good things about them. I loves me some P. Sayce tones.

Man I need to get on that. I've been in the new house a year and have yet to record one clip. I'm sure it has something to do with my 2 year old daughter being home with my during the day, and working at night...

I'll try and get around to doing some soon... As luck would have it, Gary made me a special GW Santa Cruz that should be arriving this week.

These whiney babies need loopalators, the right speakers, the right cables...you get the idea.

Except the Fuchs has the loopalator built in so I just have the effects in my rack.

My Glaswerks and Fuchs have everything built in. They need nothing but for you to plug in. The Glaswerks even emulates cable capacitance, etc. It's an all-in-one tone machine.

jelle's amps are like that, too. everything is built in and you don't need to run any effects to use the jwater (jelle's take on the dumblelator) as it has an on/off switch. one less this to carry.
