Visual Sound Route 66 Compressor
Any of you guys have any experience with the comp? What are your feelings on it? I am thinking i want a compressor as a leave on type thing, not really as a compressor but more as a tone boost type thing. Not wanting the pop of a compressor, but just a nice smoothing/fattening of my sound. Is it good at this?

I use mine for exactly that! It stays on all the time and smooths out the overall string-to-string "thing" for chordal work. It adds a touch of sustain on single note passages too! The TS808 clone that is included with the pedal is my favorite ts pedal .... I have the Jekyll & Hyde also, so I can have another TS gain stage and I stack them for my heavy OD tone!

I just built the Build Your Own Clone 5-knob compressor, and am very happy with it. IMO it's not a kit for beginners - I've built lots of stuff over the years and this took me 6 or 7 hours to do; I think you'd need some basic electronics knowledge to put it together successfully on the first try. But the end result is a Ross-style compressor with a Ratio knob that lets you mix the direct sound with the compressed sound, and a few other tweaks on the original, ancient Ross circuit.
There is a guy that builds these kits to order -- he's linked on the BYOC site. I mention this because a friend has the Rt. 66 pedal, and I seriously considered it before taking the BYOC5KC route 8^). Dave B. San Jose, CA |

It's a classic comp circuit and a classic OD circuit... totally versatile and very useful.
Upgrades include a switchable tone knob for the compressor side and bass boost for the OD side. The pedal also features built-in noise reduction, which really helps, since a lot of comps are NOISY! And being a VS pedal, the built in buffer is as good as it gets, and the built-in RF killer means your rig will never be the one picking up radio signals. Visual Sound rules.

ive owned a route66 and found both the TS/drive side and comp side great.
the comp particularly, mainly because it sounded great with both humbuckers and single coils (my other comp was the t=rex comp nova which really didnt work well with humbuckers) if its of any help, this is a demo i made of it a while back ago
