CL Score - Larrivee D03 really cheap

Hi all-

I was going through CL a little a couple of days ago and saw a lefty Larrivee D03 for sale for $200. The ad said it had a crack and there had obviously been a really strange/hideous pickguard installed as well. For the price though, converting it to a righty and removing the pickguard seemed like quite a good deal, so I had to pounce. The seller was a nice guy and lived in a very nice little neighborhood, so I wasn't concerned about it being stolen or anything. From what he told me, I got the impression that the guy who put the pickguard on it was very excited about how it came out and he just didn't have the heart to tell him it was fugly. I'm guessing that was the beginning of the end...

I'm kind of amazed at the condition of this guitar. It's like new with the exception of a few bumps. The crack is super tight and in the grain line on a side and the guard, while profoundly ugly, will come off one way or the other. I think I may leave the guitar pickguard-less, which might look nice.

The serial # is quite low on this: #038xx. Any idea if this is sapele or hog? It doesn't look as stripey as much of the sapele I've been seeing pics of. I've emailed Larrivee the serial, so perhaps they'll have an answer.

Regardless, I'm stoked. It's a really nice guitar and while I've got enough acoustics, I just couldn't pass it up. It also sounds nothing like my others - very clear and balanced across bass to treble. I look forward to it being strung righty so I can really dig in.

Here's the part you like:

Looks like a righty strung left based on the saddle angle.

ETA I was perfectly sober when I wrote that. No idea what I thought I saw.

Doh! That didn't occur to me about the angle of the bridge. Well, still not a bad price.

Just heard back from Larrivee. It's a 1997 and it's got mahogany back and sides. Excellent.
