Hmphf... right from Dr. Z. That's a pretty reputable source in my book...

OK, ONE final thought to add to try and help... Pedals have never worked for me as band-aids, NOR have they ever been the missing link for me. IME, they work better as flavors, and that's about it. I've always had to make my basic amp rig work before anything else. The classic Brit sound is built around guitar and amp (often humbucker gibson sg's, les pauls, and hollow bodies). Even the two most popular pedals used for variation of that sound are almost always just used as flavors... the tonebender and rangemaster.

Alright, this is REALLY my final thought for now... what are you using for pickups? GOOD PAF-style pickups are going to play a pretty key role in the classic Brit sound as well. Quality real PAF's are a crapshoot, and no production pickups in modern axes get there from what I've tried. I think the right pickups will take you farther to your desired sound tonally than buying some boutique pedal that didn't exist in classic british rock. I'd do speakers first though...

A: It’s kind of hard to say, but resistors probably the least, filter caps next, tubes…well, yeah, they’re pretty important because different manufacturers’ tubes have different responses. Output and power transformers are a very critical part—the heart of an amp, and speakers are the single most important component in an amp. They’re the final transducers. If the speaker isn’t right for the amp, no matter how great that amp is, it’s not going to sound that good because that’s what you’re going to hear. The speaker has to be tweaked and designed as part of the system when you design a combo amp.
I found this same thing out five years ago... the hard way. That's when I went on my search for speakers that delivered "the tone". A rather expensive search, I might add.

The right speakers take a good amp and make it great, and the wrong speakers take a great amp and make it sound average. Speakers are one component you shouldn't get to "last" in your rig, they should be sought out fairly early to get your tone defined.

And you've forever corrupted my view of what good speakers sound like... It's hard for me to even stand to listen to a lot of speakers now...... I just keep thinking to myself, you know, this amp sounds OK, but it'd sound a LOT better through the Scumbacks. Thanks a lot, you bastard!

Spend 3000-5000 USD folks of this amp and you will see. Second, my Eminence speakers will blow away celestion GT12 or green backs. I have staggered Wizard 75 watters and the RED Fang. Most boutique amp makers will tell you Eminence beats out Celestion on quality especially currently. Celestion is OK, and that is about it. I had 1985 mint condition GT12 75 watt celestions ( selling them now on Ebay) and they were floppy on the bottom with less upper mid and highs. The replacement of the Wizards and Red Fang's in 8 ohms ( less fizzy sounding) is killer. THe Red Fang are a VOX alnico blue replacement EMINENCE style, which is as good as or better. Talk about harmonic complexity and a tight focus sound, forget about it. However, this is exactly what I was asking YOU the forums members NOT to do. Detract from my question. I am VERY well rounded in gear and recording, however I was interested in using an OD pedal with my newly bought vintage plexi, since other pedals I tried were crap. SO THIS POST was about that and that alone. sigh...
...wow!.... take it easy pal...

nobody has forced you to do anything...

Everyone is just posting opinions about what they believe would be good for you, according to their personal experience(s).

and as you might have understood, people are trying to help you here.

So you'd better lose that "banzai" offensive attitude, at least towards members like John Phillips who as you can see is quite an "old dog" around...

at least, you could put a smily after the post to lighten it up a bit...

like that >>>

see? it's so easy....

btw, welcome to The Gear Page...

The phrase that started a company. I want the T Shirt!

You're like the ultimate speaker dealer/pusher... you're not forceful, you just let customers sample you're wares and they're hooked!

Uh oh... someone's been diming the prototype again, I see. LOL

T shirts are on order, Steve. I'll see about getting you one when I send up the ones I owe to CA Feathers, and Big Mike. Just waiting for them to come in.

As for the phrase, as I was being led away in handcuffs, I think it was "...and make sure that f**king Scumbag stays in jail overnight!"... ahh, memories, like the chasm of my...uh...never mind, that's one of my client's songs...got kinda carried away there for a minute.

I resemble that remark, I must admit. Heck, at least your nose doesn't bleed the next morning... maybe your ears, but not your nose...

yeah, and actually it's kind of nice to skip the headaches from brain bleed, as I no longer suffer from the sharp stab in the ear fatigue you get from 2 hours of close range playing through so many speakers. so really, I should be thanking you?

you f'ing scumbag!

Talking speakers marshall brit sound

I would like to try the vintage 25 watt green backs, however, I have already spent about 580 USD on Eminence speakers. I using a duncan EVH pickup for its classic PAF tone, flat EQ, and articulation. Since my marshal doesn't have a master, I NEED a pedal to play it SANE volume levels. I don't like using hotplates or power soaks too much. Thanks for the DR Z clip.

well since you don't believe us about speakers......heres a cheap fix. Try a SD1 or DS1 preferrable a Keeley Modded one........they work great with Marshalls.
But, John was spot on and Jims comment about great speakers making a great amp even better is the holy grail.....
