Unhappy Pick Pick Pick dilemma :( !!

I'll go straight to the point... i need a thick pick with a point....

Now for the long part...

I used to use Jim Dunlop Stubby's 3.0mm pick which to me felt really comfortable. I like to really dig in my strings when i am playing fast alternate picked runs and sweeping and stuff... as well as doing all my blues spanking...

Problems always used to arrive at the funky parts but not something that i could not handle...

I got sent a pack of V-picks to try out recently and fell in love with them. The small pointed 2.75mm was just the right pick for me... it had a wonderful glide and let me do my funky parts with ease and stuck to my hand and gave me a good tone....

But then i got a pack of gravity picks... and while i wasn't a fan or taken up by them.... they had a pick which was really really pointy.... like really pointy one... imagine V-pick shredder.... and suddenly my alternate playing took up a notch again...

The V-pick small pointed sounded and felt better but it just wasn't pointed enough for me....

I went back to an old stubby and found out what i had missed.... (mind you i use .11 strings so yesss i am a heavy handed picker -_-"...)

I emailed Vinni asking him if were possible for him to make a pick with one pointed edge and 2 normal ones like the one in small pointed but it wasn't possible...

I want to try the Red Bear Lil' Jazzer But

A. They are wayyy to expensive
B. They are breakable, consumable and would wear out really fast with the amount i play....
C. They are wayyy to expensive... and i am a rather careless person with such a small object -_-"....

Suggestions please !! Tips point outs and advice are all welcome !!

buy the v-picks you like and use a grinder (or maybe a Dremel) and grind them down a bit and then buff them smooth... or leave them unbuffed like some of the other v-picks. You get the feel you want, and you can make the tip however sharp you would like.

for what it's worth i really like the dunlop jazz iii picks, the regular has some flex but the ultex ones have no flex at all. these are certainly not as thick as you would like, but you may get a similar effect.

I use v-picks medium rounded or small pointed most of the time, but i switch around to what works best for the sound i'm going for.

Get a v-pick Screamer and sand down two of the corners.
You don't need a grinder, 220 paper is enough. Since I got
a Screamer I can't use any other pick, seriously.

This comment above in post #5 about getting a Screamer and tailoring one was my thought for you as well. It's always a crap shoot messing with the actual picking tip (super pointed in your case.) So, since you know that this material Vinni uses works for you... I'd go with the Screamer.... and then proceed from there with experimenting to get things dialed in as you want them.

what does the screamer size compare to the small pointed size o.O ?? I don't really want a big pick... would it make sense tailoring down a small pointed or is the size difference rather negligible enough to just deal with ??

the screamer is pretty big to me. bigger than a tortex standard. it's the same thickness as the small pointed though. i think people are suggesting it because it is a "shredding" pick with an already sharp point.

i would go with whatever you like to begin with, and then grind it down to your liking

let us know how it goes grinding the acrylic material down

I see you're not into the Jazz IIIs which is what I use.
I ordered a pack of the XLs to try out but I realize I've grown too accustomed to the small ones.
If you'd like to try an XL just for grins, pm me your address and I'll drop one in the mail to you.

I really really used to like pickboy picks but alas i can't find them in the right thickness !!

I used to think that the small pointed vinni sent me was medium size until he told me that it was in fact a small pointed XD XD !!

i skimmed your post and was just about to suggest Gravity Picks, but then i read your post again and saw this. what about them didn't turn you on?

it's interesting because i'm a recent convert to Gravity Picks... i had been using V-Picks for the past year or so, and tried a couple of Gravities on a whim, and i actually like them better than V-Picks..

i think the points and tapers on Gravity Picks are perfect; i've always found the V-Pick points to be either just a bit too sharp and grabby or just a bit too rounded and rolled off.

Maybe Dunlop 205 or 208's? I went from Stubby 2.0's to the 205's and I am very happy. No more chirp like the Stubby's but a very similar shape.

I tried a Gravity Pick and I was impressed. Perhaps you should consider a Blue Chip. Matt has always been very accommodating to me on what I've wanted. I just sent him a pick and he did it exactly the way I wanted it. They are pricey but it's hard to go back once you've tried one for a while. I know a lot of players around the forum like V-Picks but I had trouble adjusting to the feel of the material hitting the strings although they felt good to grip. That hasn't happened with my Blue Chip and now the Gravity either. I used to shape my own picks as suggested by a one of the previous posts. It's not hard to do and perhaps you will find your own perfect solution with that.

V Pick stilletto is too thin? It's not as fat as the standards, which I've also gotten hooked on, but the Stiletto has been fun being so pointy.
