Man dies of spontaneous combustion

Yes, it is true.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...rded-case.html

A man in Ireland burst into flames in his livingroom. As if I didn't have enough to worry about, now I have to stop rubbing my legs together when I walk.

This has got to be related to the faster than speed of light phenomenon.

Didn't think of that, but of course you must be right. And it doesn't even matter which one happened first.

Dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It's just not widely reported.

I remember in high school many years ago having a teacher that brought these incidents up. Has Myth Busters ever tackled this?

This whole thing has been explained in the last 20 years. I wonder why they're acting like it's a mystery all over again. The actual phenomenon is fascinating and has to do with some article of clothing or a blanket acting as a wick and then the small fire begins to render all the fat in your body as fuel. They showed how it worked with a pig on TV and after 10 or 12 hours even the bones just crumble.

It's amazing the amount of mileage one can get from ST. They should have built a car.

I worked as an Arson Investigator for about 10 years as part of my Firefighting duties. I took some advanced classes, and in one of those classes, the instructor provided us several cases regarding Spontaneous Human Combustion.

It was a real bizarre set of circumstances in each case, however, it was impossible to determine any other cause due to the "burn patterns" and related forensic evidence. We are taught to determine Cause & Origin, and that includes ruling out as many possible possible explanations as possible.

When you see pictures of a person who burns form the inside out, it leaves a life long impression......but the class was very skeptical as to the possibility of foul play or self inflicted suicide, as it was possible a foreign substance could have been used to cause the person to essential burn from the inside. However, no substances ever showed up on the autopsy according to the cases we reviewed.
