OCD v4...and I hate it.

I just cannot seem to get my hands on a tone I like with it. Its sharp, not as full as I want, and the Tone knob doesn't quite dial in a sound I like.

I compare it side by side to my Signa Drive, and the Signa just crushes it hands down...at this point I'm debating trading my OCD for another Signa, and run one with lighter drive for my Strat and one with heavier drive for my LP.

I'm looking for a full, bright OD similar to the Third Eye Blind self titled album.

Does anyone else get frustrated with it?

This is why I sold mine and moved on... I gave the OCD two tries too. There were nights it just killed and there were nights it was dead. I can't explain it, all the tweaking between HP/LP modes and the volume/gain. I found the pedal only sounded good with the volume up higher than unity, so it was hard to control sometimes IMHO.

I didn't like the V4 OCD either. It had this high end sizzle thing that I couldn't dial out. I am using a DLS now and it is exactly what I was looking for.

I never bonded with mine. It was sharp and brittle and I just didn't like it. I went to a Boiling Point and haven't looked back since.

AB'ed the OCD and Signa myself; Signa totally slays. I'd rather have two Signas than one of each.

With a Strat and an AC1H1TV it was too thin even through the EF86 channel.

I have a v.3 and I never have a problem using it with my Heritage Colonial. It works fine at home and I can flip the switch and it cuts in the mix.

I don’t know, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the OCD v4. I understand some people just don’t like it for any reason. Sometimes things just don’t click. However…

I notice people on this thread saying that the pedal they ended up preferring is nothing like the OCD. Which makes me think, you probably weren’t looking for what the OCD did and therefore wasn’t happy. It's like buying a Fender and then upset it didn’t sound like Mesa. Or getting a Tonebender and then claiming a Timmy was obviously better because it had a more natural tone than the Tonebender. Well of course it did. They’re 2 separate devices going for 2 different goals. …

The Signa and Boiling Point are obviously TS type pedals. The OCD is not.

It's good you guys found what you were looking for. And some people just don’t like it. That’s cool too. But every time one of these threads start, I notice someone always state; “Well, I preferred, pedal XYZ to the OCD. It obviously slays it!" and pedal XYZ is nothing like the OCD or meant to do the same thing...

When I first got my OCD I felt it sounded a bit too 'scooped' for me. But I crank my mids full bore, and the OCD just seemed scooped because it was less mid heavy than other pedals I had. I got used to its tone eventually, and even realized it is very transparent, and stays true to whatever gear I use it with.

Most importantly, it took a while for me to find my favorite settings. At first, I often cranked the drive and tone controls. I found I prefer it with volume past noon, tone below noon, and drive anywhere from 9:00-1:00. I noticed the bass seems to increase with the drive as its turned up. And turning the volume up higher seems to make it more crisp and crunchy, acting almost like power amp gain. At this point, I prefer the tone closer to 9:00-11:00. Especially in HP mode, which adds more presence and volume. I prefer using the OCD into a mildly breaking up amp.

And of course, try it at 18V if you haven't already. It may do the trick for you if you're on the fence. Also, the OCD is a great stacker IMO.

I had a version "3.5" (version 4 but with a blue LED). I really liked it but not well enough not to trade it away... Missing it, I bought three different new versions 4. I hated each of them. They were harsh and brittle. I don't know what changed besides the color of the LED and the graphics...

for you guys that had the v4 - what "marshall in a box" do you like? I rarely use that sound, but when I do, I've been using a OCDv4 for it. It is a little sterile but it's versatile from clean boost to Billy Gibbons. I'm a scooped mids kinda guy, so keep that in mind for your recommendations.
