Fender Strat Standard Vs. Deluxe identification
In the market for a 2002 American Fender Strat. Is there anyway to identify whether it is standard or deluxe? Bridge? Tuners? Serial Number?

I have a 97 American Standard and a 06 Deluxe Ash, the Deluxe came stock with locking tuners, SCN noisless pickups, a blender pot and a rounded neck heel. The Standard didn't have any of these features.

That serial number should track to an American Series.
American Deluxe features vary by year; they did typically have a "D" as the first letter of their serial numbers (1998-1999 would have a "DN8" or "DN9" number, 2000-2009 would have a "DZ0" through "DZ9" numbers). They stopped usind the "D" when they went to their current serial number system in 2010 (January through April-ish 2010 just have a "10" to start the number; after April-ish they have a "US10" for 2010, "US11" for 2011, etc.). Exception - some 2000 American Deluxes just have a "Z0" serial number. Features all years - locking tuners, chrome headstock decal, chrome plated bridge saddles on the trem and a snap-in arm. V1 (1998-2003): abalone dots on both maple board and rosewood board, single coil pickups are Vintage Noiseless (will have "Noiseless" written on the covers in script). HSS models may or may not have the roller nut - some only have the roller nut if they have the optional locking trem bridge. Regular neck heel until about 2002; sometime in 2002 the beveled neck heel appears. Body wood varies by color - trans teal, trans white and trans purple are ash; black, sunburst, and trans red are alder (I think). V2 (2004-2009): abalone dots on both maple board and rosewood board, single coil pickups are Vintage Noiseless (will have "Noiseless" written on the covers in script). All have beveled neck heel. HSS models may or may not have the roller nut - some only have the roller nut if they have the locking trem bridge. Split into 3 models - American Deluxe Strat/HSS Strat has an alder body, American Deluxe Ash Strat/HSS Ash Strat has an ash body (of course), and the V-neck model is added with maple board only and alder body and unique colors. V3 (2010-present): black pearl dots on maple board, regular pearl dots on rosewood board, single coil pickups are N3 (will have "N3" written on the covers in script). All have beveled neck heel. HSS models have the roller nut. Maintain the 3 models. |

Hi there,
That serial tracks back to a Highway 1 Strat Rosewood neck in Honey Blonde from 2003. JohnC's post is on track though. Hope that helps. Cheers, rob |
