Reverse Paypal / CL scam?

Alright help me out. I put my Dano Tans OD on Minnesota CL. $45.

Got an email from a dude to the effect of "if it's v. 1 I'll take it!"

So I say "yep - gimme your # and we'll work out a time for you to pick up."

Then he says "Do you take PP? I'm in Texas..."

"Sure, $55 gift option, shipped." That was Tuesday. I figured if he knew the different versions, he probably was a dude and not a scammer.

Then today I get $56.65 from him on PP, less the $1.94 for "fee amount."

So he didn't do gift option like I asked, and I'm worried about the reverse scam.

I ALWAYS do regular paypal, because I think a buyer should have protection. But in this case, with scamming so abundant on CL, I wanted the out of towner looking for my pedal to assume the risk. Now I'm worried that I'll send out the pedal, he'll file a complaint "yeah I never got it, man" and I'll be out the pedal and the money.

Any advice? Should I not send? If I send with delivery confirmation, will that be adequate protection against a PayPal escalation?

I'm leaving on a road trip tomorrow, so I want to get it out tomorrow morning if possible, but wanted to check in with the more experienced buyers/sellers (I've done a bit, but mostly here where I have had really good luck with people being cool and not scamming everyone).

Any help's appreciated

Thanks

Create the shipping through Paypal (via USPS or UPS) so there is a method of tracking that is directly reported to Paypal. It is the best way of trying to prevent a chargeback issue.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yeah I know I shouldn't do anything but local, but I think maybe I'm spoiled from deals I've done here.

Plus, I wanted it to work, 'cause even at 37, I still kind of believe that most people are normal honest dudes, and this guy knew something about pedals and seemed likke a dude.

But when I saw that the address he told me to ship to was different than his PP address, I refunded the money.

Again, thanks for the advice - PEACE
