How does it compare to the Zvex super hard on or Fulldrive in comp cut mode?

They're all very different, with the EP Booster being a sweeter boost, the Zvex having more trebly sparkle, and the Fulldrive kinda does its own thing which is sweet and sparkly.

The EP Boost adds some low mids, which is just awesome. I really like mine. I just wish I had a v2 instead of a v1 because the v2 can be set to have no volume bump at the lowest setting while the v1 can't.

I've had all three of those, and the EP Booster was my favorite. Do it!

I love my EP Booster.
I don't think it's that similar to the Fulldrive I used to have in compcut mode, and I have owned a few different Zvex gain pedals and never bonded with them (there's just a weird, squashy gated thing i've encountered that affects my tone negatively). I agree with the poster above, the unity gain setting on V2 would have been nice, because it gets loud. That being said, it stays clean all the way til about 2 or 3 o'clock for me, so I leave mine on at about 9 o'clock most of the time just for the added string dynamics and sensitivity. Built like a small tank, too! Great pedal. |

Very different pedals. The EP and SHO are both nice boosts with their own unique EQ curves, but FD2 in comp cut is a whole other animal IMO. It is a boost, but still very screamer-ish IMO. I use my FD2 in comp cut at all times. IMO, the EP is the polar opposite of the FD2, since the FD2 emphasizes gritty mids, and the EP emphasizes fat bass and sparkly treble, without grit. However, these two stack most excellently. Of course, this is all IMHO, YMMV, etc.

I love my EP Booster. Always on pedal. V2, set at unity gain at the very end of my chain. Just adds that extra 5% to my sound. Thinking I need a second one for pre-dirt too as it adds some fantastic bite to my OD pedals.

I just got my EP delivered today, haven't had a chance to give it a try yet. Looking forward to see how it performs.

I agree that the FD2 has always some semblance to a screamer to me. Having owned all 3, I have to agree with those above who vote for the EP...and yes, the V2 is better IMO since you can turn it all the way down and not get a boost in volume, but enhance the tone.

From their site:
"The Xotic EP Booster pedal has been one of our best selling pedals to date. We hear constantly how much everyone likes it. However, we have also heard with the gain knob turned all the way down, in some situations there is too much boost. As of July 2011, beginning from serial number 11012, we've updated the EP Booster with an internal dip switch where users can choose to have true unity gain with the knob turned all the way off. Please note, this update will not be available to EP's prior to serial numbers 11012. We apologize for this inconvenience." Great pedal by the way

The pedal I received must have been older stock. I haven't really noticed an issue with any extra boost. I will say I love this little guy it does what it says it will do! |

Haven't tried the SHO; have had the FDII. The EP which I now have (V1) is awesome. This thing adds a whole nother spectrum of tone that isn't there when it's off. It's much more than volume! It truly sweetens up the tone all the way around. Highly recommended!!!

The EP is awesome! I run mine at 18volts into the front end of my Budda with both internal dip switches on. Massive tone! The Budda is thick on its own, but the EP makes it even bigger (especially the low end through my Orange 2x12). I like my guitar to sound chunky! The FD2 in Comp Cut is very nice too. I used that for awhile and just never needed anything more than the boost so I went a different direction. The EP has distinct voicing though so it'll be a bit different from the SHO or the FD2.

So since we are on the subject,
Where are y'all running your EP booster in the signal chain? Just before the amp or first pedal out of the guitar? I keep looking at this pedal as well. I just wish I could go somewhere and play one and hear it before I purchase.
