Chorus: love it - have it/use it sparingly- no need

Seems to me like the chorus pedal is not as popular as it once was. Curious as to what you all choose.

I choose to use chorus as much as I can, but use it subtly and tastefully.
There's a lot of songs that have chorus used in them that I like heaps, but there are others that I don't like because they sound too cliche & dated. It's an odd juxtaposition.

Blame the pop producers of the 1980s- they stacked so many synths and digital delays into their tracks, that any guitarists that were playing could only cut through the mix by using Chorus. And of course often they used too much.

I have enough modulation in my verb and delay. No need for it currently. If I know I can use another fuzz or chorus, it's fuzz all day

I use it almost all the time but set so the modulation is felt and not heard - spread stereo with the speed at min and depth at max on the wet signal of my w/d/w rig - makes it sounds huge without being muddied.

Occasionally I turn the speed up for clean rhythm or for leads. When using it for leads, it sounds more double-tracked than chorused since slight difference coming out of different speakers sounds more like a few slightly different takes (natural chorus) than a typical chorus effect pedal.

I switch between using chorus and flange when I want the modulation to be heard.

I have a Boss Super Chorus CH-1. It works... the CE models sound better, but I got it in a trade, so I had no out of pocket expenses on it.

I like Chorus for a melodic filler on certain tunes. It is a staple in my signal chain.

Between my CC2 provibe, Dunlop RV, Neo Ventilator Leslie sim and Demeter Tremulator, my modulation/wobbly needs seem to be covered.

I really don't like it, at least in my current setup.

I just don't like what it does the the sound. I seem to crave the immediate attack of the note and the character of the sound, and anything that changes either of those things tends to bother me. I have a mixed relationship with flanger pedals too for that reason (though I do like them and have one), but chorus doesn't do anything that I do like for all of the things I don't, if that makes sense. My favourite effect is phaser, and I like the way that it doesn't add any peripheral sound.

Keep in mind though that the context is key; I'm using the only rig I have, which is the one that makes the main sound that I like. That is, Class A, EL84, single channel...

If I had a 50-100w multi-channel to go with it (likely a Boogie Mark series), I'd probably be more able to put up with chorus. Particularly if I got to turn it up a bit in a gig setting, and use a stereo configuration...

But with all that said, the chorus that I've heard that I liked the most was the TC SCF. Shame about the price.
