Do you name your guitars?

Probably been done before but...you know, Lucille, Ol' Red, even "number one".

I don't own enough guitars really to name them (other than "main" and "backup" or "my old strat") but even if I did, I don't think I'd name them. Just not my thing.

If you've named your guitar, please share the names (seriously now, I know a lot of you could just jump in and make up stuff).

Pics to go along with the names (or stories about how they got their names) welcome.

And while I'm on it - anyone name their AMPS?

Steve

I don't name my guitars, but some have acquired names...

The first time I brought my McCarty to rehearsal, the (female) singer said, "Oh, that's pretty, I like the birdies"... during rehearsals, it was "you should play the guitar with the the birdies", and that became "you should play birdie"

And so that McCarty is now Birdie...

A friend of mine has a PRS Custom that he won on Ebay, for an incredibly low price... that one became known as "Lucky"

After my favorite female singers, so far I have Ruby, Sara, and JJ. Still looking for one to earn "Grace".

Nope. Guitars are simply tools for making music.

I've never named a guitar of my own, but recently a friend of mine and I nicknamed an SG '61 Reissue in local store "ugly-hot," because the two piece body doesn't book-match at all. One side is all smooth while the other side is all gnarly. It's been there forever because of this, and I was thinking of buying it just because it has a name now. Like most ugly-hots, she's a great player.

I just call um, this one and that one or refer to the color or model. I tried naming them when I was a kid but I after a dozen or so, I stopped.

Some of my guitars have had names and others haven't. Of my current guitars only one has a name and that name came from the builder.

I wonder how many guys that scoff at naming a guitar wouldn't have a problem naming a boat.

Depends.
If the guitar is a singular entity, I'll refer to it by model name.
If I have multiple of the same model I may name them based on an attribute that stands out.

I have a Korina Artist called "Blondie".
A sparkle SG called "Vegas".
All Black Strat called "Leather Jacket".

Stuff like that.
