I took your comment as exactly that, "supportive and happy." I also realize that Alan has been fairly vocal in the past about not being real interested in building small wattage amps for his own personal reasons so I think it's really cool he's decided to make one.

Just last month, and I kid you not, I had my JB 100 and Van Weelden set up as a dual amp rig in our bedroom of all places. I only fired the amps up for a few minutes, however, as the levels of volume approach insanity! My wife kicks ass for putting up with me! LOL

I know what you mean--my wife has been putting up with me making vids in the house, which definitely interferes with her TV watching. LOL

I love the 50 and 100 watters, but to be honest our band plays smaller venues, and I just get volumes cracked open before I start getting protests from the sound guy.

The "R" series is perfect for me, as I'll probably be able to open them up and hear that sweet spot. I'm also investing in an amp shield (like Joe B's, although home-made) to cut down on 'beaming.'

Alan's amps sound great at all volumes, so if you're contemplating an amp that you're going to gig a lot, the 50 watt is probably a good bet. For home/recording and occasional gigging, the "R" series or the new HS model is built for you.

When my Trip-R gets in you bet I'm going to try it at a gig, and will report back immediately.

On another note, another brick is settling into place for my move to the Pacific Northwest--might have a job offer very soon!

Funny, but I've been rigging up my Zingaro with my OD3 lately in my little den/studio that's adjacent to our living room, and I've reached a few db levels of "insanity" myself.....LOL. Still, my wife acts like it's just another day...... After 37 years, I do believe she's still a "keeper!"

Brother, you have great taste for tone! I love Alan's amps and I also love those Glaswerk's. Plenty of room for great amps in this world IMO!

NGD; Nik Huber Orca '59

I hope this is not out of line but I am really pleased with this instrument and wanted to share it on the Carol Ann thread.

My Huber is a "plain Jane' compared to most but like every other I've heard, it rocks! This is about as vintage as Team Huber gets.

I've only had a few hours to play with it but I immediately noticed the incredible unplugged acoustic volume of the Orca. Wow! The sound literally jumps off the body as if there was a resonator under the bridge. I have never had a guitar that had such a focused projection to its acoustic sound.

I'm certainly biased but this thing reeks of quality and that's exactly why I wanted to share it here. Like my CA amps, every interface to ever part is contributing to the wonderful coherent sound you hear. You can practically feel it at the molecular level, the way it vibrates is just different from everything else I've played. The best analogy I can come up with is that the Orca seems to be constructed with all its materials and parts "in phase."

Well enough of the fawning over the new instrument; I need to change the strings and practice.

As is the custom for NGDs, I took some photos while the sun came out for 30 seconds today. Ah, the joy of living on the North Coast!

Very nice!
I was just talking with J.T. Guitars on text about a guitar I bought that drips with tone. You have to love it when you cross paths with such nice instruments!
Enjoy, she's a beaut!

Very sweet... love that scalloped neck pocket!

I'm still not going below 17W. That in my opinion is the lowest you can go and still keep up with a drummer at a small venue.

I'm just not into the single channel 3W pieces of furniture type of deal. It still has to be able to sit with a band for me to build it, so I've not vroke that rule.

The HS-2 is not a cut down version of anything, the parts cost are right up there with other amps in the line, but it's designed simpler to be built easier with less hours. Thats how I got the price where it is.

Important revision to this amp: It WILL have a Tube Buffered efx loop. It too critical to miss and I can get one in without affecting the build cost too much.
This amp is designed to be run with a pair of 6V6's and will feature a more traditional BF type clean channel and an OD channel that you'll know is one of mine. Seperate eq and masters as you'd expect. No color upgrades or any personalizations with this model though. It is what it is at that price.
The other motivation was to get an amp under $2k that could bring some other players in that maybe can't stretch to the $3k price point but want a flexible high quality 2 channel boutique amp. Most boutiques in this price range are single channel amps and many that are 2 channels are basically production built amps massquarading under a Boutique pretense.

I agree with the neck joint JT, that is one sweet looking guitar. If I were to venture into the LP land I would go for something pretty much exactly like that. Nice choice....I'd love to play a Huber someday.

On another note, I too have a NGD coming REAL soon. I'll post a pic when it gets here. Hope you all are having a great day.

Thanks all, some serious bonding going on over here! The Haussel pick ups are taking some getting used to.

The Orca does the LP thing beautifully and beyond. The bridge tone control is push/pull splitting the coils of what ever pup is selected; a very nice touch.

If I ever get my act together I will post some sound clips. Maybe I'll send it to kingsleyd to do a proper demo; the video of his Ruokangas Unicorn was off the hook.

Mikeroesoft- I know how time slows down in anticipation of NGD. Hopefully sooner than later

I would love to hear a demo of that guitar! MY NGD guitar should have been here a couple months ago and has made the anticipation much worse. Its a custom ordered guitar that came in at the end of November, and was not what I had spec'd. Anyway, they have rebuilt a new one and I was told a week ago today that the guitar shipped out, so it should be here by tomorrow. Its actually very similar to the Krauster II, but we don't have any Huber dealers near here so I went with a Collings.....and now to come full circle....I ordered this guitar to specifically to go with a CA I have on order. Its going to be a good year, but everytime I think I have my GAS in check.......
