We are using the new Presonus 24 channel board. Alan said he uses this board and we talked awhile back about how nice of a board it is. Our band is really "techy/geeky" now. We run in ear monitors and all of our mixes are individually controlled from our iPhones. No more, "Wishkah can you give me more drums in my mix..." When we do have a sound/lights guy he runs everything off of the iPad. He walks around the club with a little iPad and mixes on the spot with no snake, etc. We ran it this way last show and it worked flawless. (knock on wood) So, so nice! I'm very proud of the system my wife and I put together. There has been literally years going into this and we are very pleased with the end results. The sound is so amazingly clear. It's all part of the chain and these amps we love so much are only one small piece of the "big picture"...
Basically, I own the PA and trailer and am the only person who really knows how to run everything so I solidified my spot in the band! LOL

Now back to the Triptik/SLO. WOW! You rock harder than I... I gigged Soldanos for a few years and they are really nice amps. The SLO was damn loud and proud! Part of me misses those days! LOL Mike Soldano is my "neighbor" to the North a bit and is a real nice guy, just like Alan. I'd sure love to hear that rig when you get it up and running.
Yeah love the presonus. Very consistent. One software glitch I did find was that occasioanlly auxes just won't work. You have to turn the aux send master down and put it back it up and it mysteriously works again. It's a known issue.

With that said, the VW and JB 100 sound damn good together! The JB has a bit more aggressiveness to it and a bit more "bite", if you will. It's smooth when you want it to be and it has some snarl to it depending on how you approach it. Your pick attack really comes to play with this amp. It's tighter than the VW and chords very well.
The VW is so smooth and overall easier to play. I have had a couple Van Weelden owners overseas contact me. They say to hang in there as it's so difficult to play but once you get the hang of it-"watch out". I laugh as after spending a year with the JB 100, every amp seems super easy to play!
With all that said, the lead tone of the two together is jaw dropping good. So thick a musical but with zero fizz. I've gigged this pair more than once and, thus far, it's been my favorite pair to gig with-especially for soloing. You better be on your game, but if you are it's an inspirational experience when you step on the boost pedal! Peter Van Weelden and Alan Phillips certainly know what the hell they are doing!
Different styles of amps blend bettrer than similar styles. I played a tucana 2 this weekend and it never sounds as good as another style of amp because Johnny, our other player uses one too. Two together is just too much. I'm better off with an EL34 amp.

I'm struggling with some weird cold/flu virus this week. Keeps coming for a day then leaving. A couple of the guys in the band have been the same way. Not sure my output will be too great this week, but we'll see how it goes. Winter sucks !!

Hey guys - a few notes from this weekend. First, I'm fortunate that despite my day job I get to play with (often as fill-in) guys who make their living in the music industry. The other guitar player in the band (makes his living mainly as a studio engineer) and the guy running sound both remarked that my OD2 has as big/clear/good an overdrive as they've ever heard.

Note to new C-A users: The longer you own the amp & learn about it the more it will reward you.

If I could learn to dial the amp so the clean sound has more compression and/or some break-up I could solve this long mysterious tone riddle!

Have you tried the volume pedal or boost in loop trick yet? It works great!

No, but I'm intrigued by this boost in the loop idea. I run a TC Hof & Flashback in the loop. Have any suggestions on a boost?

Try a volume pedal first. Search the CA threads on input from other users. Some great discussions on this topic in the past.

@Alan: Get well soon, man! Fluids, vitamin C, Tylenol, and rest when you can.

Volume pedal in FX loop: works great. If you have a CA amp without the Lead Boost feature, this is the way around it. Just leave a little headroom, and floor the pedal for solos and such. It also works great for doing the cello-like sounds, and some pedal steel licks (of course the volume pedal should be first in the FX loop chain for this).

Ohhh Randy, I saw this post too late. I just sold the Od3r that had in stock in the store, but I think the dimensions are the same of Tucana 2 and Triptik that I still have. Not too heavy, in fact very friendly weight for a 145 lbs like me....
