What do you look for in wood grain on bodies?
Lets say when you are picking out wood for a build from the Warmoth body site or from the lumber yard.
what do you look for?? Straight grain lines? Well defined lines? Tight grain lines or more widely spaced? ( would that make the wood brighter or more mellow?) what are some rules of thumb? or are there absolutely none?? and you go by weight alone? cheers! |

Interesting wood grain was my number one factor when I bought my warmoth. Second was weight of the body (lighter the better for me).
I'm not much of a believer that tighter grain will give you a better sound or anything like that |

It depends on the type of guitar. On Strats I like a grain that kind of follows the contour of the body to a degree. There is nothing like a swamp ash strat where the grain kind of mimics the contour of the body on both halves if it is a 2 piece body.

Beauty , unless it will be covered with an opaque finish , in which case it don't matter a hill of beans .
