What do you feed your dog(s)?

Authority brand food (the Petsmart company brand) came highly recommeded but lately it seems that their QC has largely gone down hill. I opened one bag of dry food and the food was covered in mold. It was disgusting. The latest wet food that I purchased showed evidence of rust on a few of the cans and when I opened the first can, it smelled rotten. I don't want to continue chancing it with this brand.

What brands would you suggest? I have to be careful of some brands as we were given some samples once and my Great Dane broke out in welps all over his body. I think it must have been some of the grains used.

I use Purina 1 because I live in a small town where we can't get the Authority brand (which we used to use, and I and my old vet highly recommend). What happened with your dry food happened once with me with Authority and once with one other brand, don't sweat it. I brought it back to the store and they replaced it.

My dog would rather eat the neighbor's cat, though.

My dogs don't eat "dog food" at all. They eat a home made, human grade raw diet.

If anyone wants details, I would be happy to either post them here or you can contact me via PM.

If you must feed a commercial dry dog food, make sure to get "grain free". Quality brands include EVO, Wellness CORE, Taste of the Wild, Orijen, etc...

I use Nutro Max large breed adult. It's primarily a meat product and she like the taste more than some other brands.

We augment that with some kind of additional meat and protein once a day. If there are trimmings from the night's meat dish, we'll cook that up and give her the meat and drippings along with the dry food. If we don't have that available, I'll fry up a hot dog and mix it with some eggs and cheese and throw that in with the dry.

I used to cook 1x every 2 weeks to feed my dogs... but its football season so they get Pedigree wet/dry mixed.

When I cook their food, I prepare

1-2 bags of lentil beans
2-3 bags of brocoli
2 bags of carrots
garlic
2 bags whole grain brown rice
3-4 lb's of whatever meat (pork, beef, chicken) on sale at walmart.

cook the rice and beans then lower heat... add meats, then add veggies cook meats until med rare to med.

I heat up 2 big scoops for each dog 1x a day. i actually save money, but it takes just about all day to prepare 2 weeks of food.

I want details. Have you calculated your cost per pound? How much do you feed per day for a particular dog weight (approx)? what's your protein and fat percentages?

Bacon-encrusted Filet Mignon and creme caramel for dessert.

And when he's done eating, I walk 'im and make sure to stop at every homeless person so they can smell the food on my dog's breath. Then I flip 'em a quarter and stroll on to the next one.
