Pot Replacement Questions
I'm replacing the pots on my PRS Se (one of the older models, first in the se line to come out circa 2003 or so??). CTS pots from RS are going to require some drilling to make the hole a bit bigger from what I understand(current holes are for 6mm pots). Correct? And does this mean I am going to need new knobs as well? I ask because I saw some Gibson knobs online that were 6mm, which confused me because as I understand it, guitars made in the US already have the 3/8" hole.
Lastly, what's the deal with long vs short shaft pots? Is it a preference thing? If not, how do I know which I need for my guitar? Thanks for any help. Blake

i'd pull one of the pots out and see what size they are and replace them with the same size - i wouldn't go drilling the guitar - anyway pots for strats are of a smaller diameter than those for an LP as far as i know so prob pots that fit a fender will fit ur plank

you'll want short-shaft pots for that CE. (longs are for carved-top les pauls)
audio taper CTS is indeed the ticket, but my current favorites are the dimarzio-spec versions. they turn easier than the RS, have a great taper, and are every bit as robust, with the brass shafts and the little c-clip to keep the shaft from getting pushed through the back. you probably will need different knobs.

..and use a reamer, not a drill if you're gong to be enlarging the pot shaft holes.

All you need is this:
http://www.harborfreight.com/t-handle-reamer-66936.html ...you just need about 1mm or so of space. it's super easy and only takes 1 second ...just be gentle, then try to fit the pot in. |
