Wilco Fans: Recommend Me Some Bands

I began listening to Wilco about 5 months ago. Now I'm borderline obsessed with their sonic textures and warmth. Also have a crush on all of their gear at that loft. Prior to this I only listened to the same classic rock and '90s rock songs that have been on the airwaves for years. I have quite a discriminate ear and somehow didn't realize that "good" music isn't on the radio in this day and age.

So recommend me some bands. Alt. Country or anything My Morning Jacket-ish as well. So far, I like Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams stuff but not so much Son Volt (not that it's "bad" I just don't feel it). Based on this, give me some fuel for inspiration, please!

As much as I love the Zep and Hendrix, I need something fresh.

Awesome! I'm really digging Cat Power, Eliot Smith, and Drive By Truckers so far. It's always difficult for me to find new stuff, as everyone I know listens to the same music over and over without becoming bored somehow.

Thanks for the recommendations, as I'll check them all out. Keep 'em coming.

BIG STAR!

They aren't new, but you can hear a lot of their influence in Wilco. Not just the pop stuff, but their use of 'noise' as a texture. (Big Star's 'Kangaroo' is a good example)

LUCINDA WILLIAMS! one of the best writers around, great voice, great vibe

Buddy and Julie Miller-Great writers alone and together-Buddy plays guitar with lots of greats (Emmylou Harris,Shawn Colvin,Patty Griffin) and produced the new Robert Plant album

Ron Sexsmith- not that well known, but his fans include Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, etc

Justin Townes Earle and his dad, Steve

Kasey Chambers and her husband, Shane Nicholson

Teddy Thompson and his dad, Richard

Ditto for Old 97's/Ryan Adams

Whoa, lovin' the SPOON tunes. Very nice.

I feel like a kid in a candy store right now. I should have solicited this earlier.

I have to second Uncle Tupelo

They basically started the whole alt country genre, and I believe No Depression, the magazine, is named after their cover of the Carters. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong about any of this stuff. I love Uncle Tupelo!

Oh and it's the Old 97's, not 98's as stated above. Sorry, not trying to be snide.

Also, if you can find them: The Barkers
Awesome band, originally from Austin around the early 2000's(?) They've been broken up for awhile, but their album "Burn Your Piano" is brilliant.
