I vote here Longisland and the NYC metro area.
Other "lesser" countries Ive visited put our roads to shame. 2012 approaching and the roads are getting worse not better |

Colorado is pretty bad. The funny thing here is that when they repave a road, they don't make the manhole covers flush so basically every manhole is a pothole. Growing up in Texas, the manhole covers were always flush with the newly paved street so it didn't jar your car everytime you drove over one. So even on the really nice smooth streets of Colorado, beware of the manmade potholes!

Been a while since I lived out there, but the roads in DC were the worst I've ever seen.

OMG!
Last time I drove through there, my wife and I made the mistake of taking the Cross-Bronx Expressway in our Mini. We hit a "bump" (bump doesn't even begin to describe it) that caused us both to spontaneously yell: WTF!!!! I really think it may have bent the frame. That road should be decommisioned!!! There were multiple more lesser events, but that one was just un-be-lieve-ably bad.

Ive driven roads in Michigan, Ohio, illinoise, Kentucky, Georgia, New York, Florida, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Canada...
and BY FAR the worst are here in Michigan..we have the highest shipping weight allowed on our roads, these semi's just destroy these roads...most roads are completely fubar 1-3 years after re-doing them...there is year round construction, and the roads are bumpy as hell

For always being under construction southern Pennsylvania does a miraculous job of never quite fixing the roads.

for a while I would have said Shepherd drive near my house here in Houston but they are finally fixing it.
Houston also has this annoying habit of throwing 1/2" steel plates over holes in the road and waiting forever to fix them. When I lived in Colorado, it was always funny to travel out of the state. You could always tell where the state lines were because the road would suddenly get better as you passed from CO to Kansas or something. |

I was driving through the hills of Kauai and the pavement ended. About half a mile further on there was a sign that said "End of Paved Road". With 500 inches of rain a year it is really, really hard to keep up the roads.

Alabama is pretty bad, as well. You know when you cross out of GA into AL because the roads change.

Montreal is the worst, ever.
I kid you not. There are potholes the size of adult dogs that are a solid 8-10 inches deep that have gone unfixed for years! I think Montreal is the king of crappy roads. Best city in the world, but shittiest roads, by far. ![]() This last one is according to the msg board user who blogged about it "32 inches long and 16 inches wide, and is about 6 inches deep." Wow!
