Why do you not drink alcoholic beverages?

I'm curious as to why those of you who don't drink, don't. Religious reasons? Recovering alcoholic? Family influence?

Makes me sleepy, and quiet. Don't dig the taste.
Sometimes can get a headache.

Growing up my Mom worked at the beer distributor. Always beer in the fridge.. could have it anytime. I wanted Coca cola.

Growing up I watched it ruin the lives of a lot of people.

Some people can, I choose not to find out myself. I don't feel as though I've missed out on anything significant 28 years into my life. I have religious beliefs that further solidify my thoughts on the matter.

For looks... I have always been very conscious about being healthy and working out. I used to hit the gym everyday and run... Then, as I got into my mid-20's and was working more...I didn't have time to work out as much and the extra beer puts on the extra pounds.

I have been a steady drinker throughout my 20's, yet just recently decided to scale it back to just about never (maybe a drink during a holiday meal or social situation), yet not kicking back with six or seven on a weekend.

I've never been a wine drinker. I would only have beer...or either Jack Daniel's or vodka on the rocks. So, it's not like I would drink anything, anywhere.

In the past, I worked out to look great and be ripped. Now, I work out to lose the weight I've gained. I have a very good diet...so I have attributed the extra weight from the extra calories in booze.

Oh...the hardest part is that I *love* the taste. If someone made non-alcoholic/healthy Jack Daniel's, I would love that.

So...that's my reasoning.

I'm a Pastafarian, so I have no prohibitions against alcohol. As long as a person can drink responsibly, why not? A good wine makes any meal better, even a burger.

I scaled way back, mostly for health reasons. My wife and I have been trying to keep semi-strictly paleo (no grain, no dairy, no sugar, no beans), and I have found that as far as weight gain from drinking alcohol, it seems that if I cut out beer and grain-based liquor (and also don't drink very often), I'm good. If I stick to tequila and red wine, 4x a week and not all at once, I'm good! I love it. I had a beer last week and felt so bloated and slow, it was weird.

I don't like the high. The taste of beer is ok but I dislike the taste of everything else.

I don't drink because the idea of not being completely lucid and in control of my own faculties freaks me out. Always has.

Alcohol smells terrible to me, too.
