Heart Attack... How Long Were You Tired After???

Had a heart attack on October 8 ( they put a stent in). Still tired as hell and thinking WTF? That's approximately six weeks.

Wondering if any of you can describe how long it took to feel moderately/significantly better? My cardiologist says it may be 3-6 months before I feel like myself again.

My best friend went through this not long ago and it was around 4 months for him to gain his former energy back.

I remember my dad going through that. But he let it get the best of him and became a couch potato after that.

How soon before you can exercise? Even walking can help improve how you feel.

I'm walking thirty minutes a day at this point but not doing much else cause I'm so wiped out. It's such a slow recovery process thus far. I hoped to be way farther along by now.

I hate to say it but when I hear four months, I feel a little better. Meaning sometimes I'm worried something else is going wrong and I get anxious (and depressed).

Thanks for the welcome back and the feedback.

If the 'attack' lasted long enough and there was wall damage, perhaps an echo- documented wall motion deficit, AND if it's capable of healing, I'd give it 4-6 months.

Took me about 4 months after a couple of stents. It wasn't necessarily the health issue as much as the medication. My heart was slowed to about 50 bpm and I had no energy at all. To top it off, the cholesterol meds were making my joints ache so I constantly felt as if I had the flu. Pay close attention to all of your post stent complaints and TELL your doctor!! I waited four months before I started to complain. Cardiologist said, "why did you not say anything"? "We could have straightened this out three months ago". I went through about another month of medication changes and once the doc got it dialed in I was good to go. Never had as much as a minutes trouble and that was 2005.

Yup, I have to speak up LOUDLY when I have doctor appointments. Don't think I've been aggressive enough with that.

I'm single so have to be a better advocate for myself moving forward. Working on it.

Thank you to everyone for their experiences and advice.

Took my dad about 6-7 months to get fully recovered, but he also had a triple bypass. Seems like it just takes time...

I had a heart attack and 4 bypass grafts back in 2003. I was feeling back to normal after 3 or 4 months..walking several miles, hiking in the hills, etc.

Then again, I was only 47 years old and in otherwise very good health. The key for me was to get up and moving right away. The more exercise I could do every day, the better I felt and the more quickly I was able to start doing more and more.

I can't say I've felt that way with exercise yet. I was walking for a good bit more time than they told me to and felt maybe I was overdoing it (cause I was so damn tired) so cut back to there suggestions... Although, I walked 45 minutes today in the afternoon. I'll try to do it earlier in the day and see if that helps.

Want to make sure I'm doing enough.

Did you do rehab? Stevel mentioned that in his post and I'm wondering how many people here that had heart attacks did go through the rehab process.

I haven't done it as I don't have any insurance until Dec 1st... that's a whole nother mess.

Thank you so much for everyone's input. I really appreciate it VERY much. Feel pretty alone with this thing so it helps to hear other's experiences.

By the way, wondering if people experienced much of the emotional stuff after their heart attack (anger, depression, anxiety)?
