Best Budget P 90 axe

I'm looking to add a P 90 equipped guitar to the arsenal. I have no preference at this time. The budget is less than $1000 bucks and used is fine.

Whaddayagot?

I can't say enough about the PRS SE P-90 guitars. You can find them used for under $300. Can't figure out why they are so cheap; I have two.

Gibson '60s Tribute, either SG or LP.

Hamer Special from the 1990s. Show up on eBay with some frequency.

But if you are asking someone to sell you one, this probably isn't the forum . . .

I agree. I have a semi-hollow, and love it. I plan on changing the tuners, but otherwise it's great.

I'm speculating here, but I'm willing to bet that one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PRS-Paul-Reed-Smith-SE-Soapbar-II-Tobacco-Burst-Electric-Guitar-/250940477915?pt=Guitar&hash=item3a6d37d1db

With a set of these:

And maybe a bridge / tuners upgrade if needed, would be as killer as it can get within your budget. Call me crazy to suggest spending almost as much on pickups as the rest of the guitar, but all SEs I've tried had very resonant woods and were extremely well finished and set up regardless of price, so, why not.

Reverend has several excellent P90 models in your price range, most with 2 pickups and some with 3 pickups. I own a Warhawk 390, and I'm loving it. Right now there is a Mantaray 390 limited edition available. Solid-carved semi-hollow with 3 P90s and a Bigsby for under $1000. I also really dig the Jetstream 390 (discontinued) or the Club King.

Reverend also makes a few one-P90 guitars. Sensei Jr. has a single P90 in the bridge. The Rick Vito sig and Double Agent both have a humbucker in the bridge and P90 in the neck.

A truly great thing about all Reverends is the high-pass filter "Bass contour control" they all come with. It really adds a lot of versatility.

The P90 sound clips at Lollar's web site were done with an Agile Les Paul copy. I have no experience with Agile, but that alone to me makes them worth considering.

LP DC Faded. Light weight and rocks hard. Can buy used for $500-650.

I bought a new 60's Tribute SG and am really pleased with it. Love the P90's and overall quality was surprisingly good. Had to have the nut slotted to stay in tune but that's it.

I'd look no further than this stuff>>IMHO superior to the tribute stuff. My buddy was excited with his tribute,(they are a good value), but these guitars blow it away on several levels.

Sg classics are great guitars, they have fret bindings. They feel like a much more expensive guitar.

Check them out

I love my Gibson Les Paul 60s Tribute. They are under $1k, and are just great guitars. I was looking for another gold top, but this honey burst caught my eye, and played like butter. So it came home with me. Love this guitar!
