Digitech DF-7: boutique dirtbox killer

I don't get why there isn't more love/talk about the humble Df-7. yeah i know, this is tgp, where many buy with their eyes cos they have no ears ;-),. and also it isn't expensive enough and it isnt true bypass, But still.
It can cop a rat, it can cop a ts9 or ts808. I dare say it can basically cop ANY possible od/dist tone, with its extensive eq options. I just cant get why anybody would spend so much money on a pedal, like a klon or whatever, when they could get the same sound from a 50 buck pedal??? Makes no sense.

it's digital distortion. it can't sound even close to any of pedals it emulates.

How so? How do you explain me shooting out between the df 7 and an '80's rat and ibanez ts808 and finding the df-7 to be indistinguishable from the originals........I honestly think people desperately want to believe there very xpensive boxes "must" be better than a POS digitech, and so they dismiss.

Anyone here have adf-7? What do/did you think of it?

I had a DF-7 and it was pretty good. On the plus side, the EQ was very flexible and you could tweak the emulated pedals beyond the range of the originals.

However, I don't think the tone was really in the same league as the originals. It was good pedal to point me in various directions for further exploration.

Come to think of it, I kind of miss the DOD 250 overdrive setting. That was cool.

@ comealongway - You've posted enough about this that I have to assume that you're either sincere or the world's most persistent and obscurist troll. (Where's that hipster cat pic when you need one???)

That said - I think I can relate. I really enjoy my BYOC Shredder, and anytime someone brings up a thread about aggressive Marshall-sounding pedals, that's always my first recommendation. I've put it up against a number of other great options that usually cost quite a bit more, and it always competes. Granted, sometimes it is just a matter of taste, but for the money you can't beat it.

However, no matter how much I recommend it, it feels like I'm talking to walls. It's ok, though, cause I love the pedal. If the DF-7 does it as well as you could ever want, then awesome for you. Be happy, and try to point people in that direction, especially when they're looking for a cheaper option. Because of your recommendation I will totally keep my eyes out for the chance to try one out or snag one on a good deal. However, I'm good on what I got, and my experiences with Digitech's other mid-high gain distortion pedals has not really left me wanting more.

I have a DF-7. In fact, it was the first dirt pedal I bought, years ago, and has served me well. But I think you're over-stating it to say that it can cop ANY ds/od tone. Yes, it does a good job at some of the pedals it emulates, but I was not impressed at all with the Big Muff emulation, and I hated the Metal Master (but I hate the original too, so it's probably a good emulation). Nevertheless, it can't do anything close to what I get out of my Plexi-Drive, SLOstortion, Ecstasy, or Screwdriver pedals. Is it good for what it purports to do? Yes, at least it worked well for me for a while, and I don't plan to sell it - it's in my "archive" drawer . But now that I have expanded my tonal palette, when I go back to it I find it lacking in depth and feel. YMMV

I have a DF-7. I think the DS-1 mode sounds better than the original DS-1 with all the EQ options. I agree that it is very versatile and handy pedal that actually sounds pretty good, but I disagree that it copes all dirt tones. If it does for you, congrats. To me it just doesn't, and that's why I buy boutique pedals.
