Pedal Configuration
I have an SKB PS-25 pedalboard with a bunch of pedals. I want to configure them in the best order possible. I use George L's connectors between the pedals. The board is not noisy, but I am aware that placing a particular pedal in front of or behind another can alter the sound. A quick note - I am in the process of changing out the current Boss FV-50 for a Hilton low profile volume pedal. So, with that said, the order, and pedals that I have in the loop are as follows:
1) Volume Pedal 2) Boss Chorus Ensemble CE-5 3) Boss Acoustic Simulator AC-3 4) Outlaw Supply Four Forty (Auto Wah) 5) Outlaw Supply Happy Trails (Delay) 6) Keeley 4 knob Compressor 7) MXR Phase 90 8) Keeley Fuzz Head 9) Boss Flanger BF-2 10) Decimator Noise Reducer If you see a pedal that you think should be changed / upgraded, then please, let me know your thoughts. I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide. Cheers!!! LongIslandGuitarman@gmail.com |

I would move the auto wah, fuzz, phaser and maybe compressor towards the very front. And I'd put the delay towards the end. When you get your new volume pedal, you may want to put it after the fuzz since the Hilton is buffered (I believe).

I would go...
Compressor > Acoustic Sim > Dirt > Noise Reducer > Wah/Auto Wah > Volume > Chorus/phaser/flanger > Delay > Reverb

My opinion:
1) Keeley Fuzz Head - assuming this needs to go before buffers, otherwise I'd put this after the compressor. 2) Boss Acoustic Simulator AC-3 - probably should go early to work with a clean signal. If you are using the separate output, this has the added benefit of shutting down the rest of your chain when you are in acoustic mode. 3) Outlaw Supply Four Forty (Auto Wah) - my preference is for wah before dirt generally, but assuming the Fuzz Head needs to go first, this is probably the best place for this.. Before compression is good too to smooth out the peaks. 4) Keeley 4 knob Compressor - I find compression early is more natural sounding. Depends on the unit and your preference. Some prefer this at the end of the chain. 5) Boss Chorus Ensemble CE-5 - the order of 5, 6, and 7 doesn't really matter unless you stack them. 6) MXR Phase 90 7) Boss Flanger BF-2 8) Volume Pedal - I like this last before delay for volume swells. Having it first affects the gain of drive pedals rather than volume - you already have a volume knob on your guitar for that. matter of preference though - some people like it at the start. 9) Decimator Noise Reducer - put this before your delay, otherwise it will cut the repeats. 10) Outlaw Supply Happy Trails (Delay) |
