Is an EQ the Most Versatile Pedal of All?
I am inclined to say that it is.
No Mid Hump unless you want one, a Flat EQ Curve if you want one, a Volume Boost if you want one, Scooped Mids if that's what you want, normally Very Transparent, etc. EQ is the Most Versatile Pedal of All.

The Amptone website is a strong supporter of your statement. http://www.amptone.com/#eqconcepts

I would say yes as well. I own two EQs as I think they are the answer to many a tonal problem.

I think the type of pick you use, the way you hold it, and how you use it is just as significant. It can be varied from guitar to guitar or even song to song to achieve different sounds.

Two thumbs up... I love my Source Audio Programmable EQ... you go from heavy and thick rhythm to a sizzling lead at the flick of a foot switch, and without adjusting anything else or adding extra pedals. I then let my playing dynamics alter relative to the tone and what I'm trying to achieve with each/different tone.

most EQ pedals add a lot of noise IME.
I recently built a single band parametric EQ pedal. It can boost or cut any freq from 70 to 7000 hz. The Q control lets you adjust from a very narrow slice of freq or a wide range. It's really quiet and lets you dial in a very wide range of tones, and is a blast with dirt pedals |

One of the best drive sounds I've heard was a GE-7 into a Solid State Kustom amp. I was stunned at the sound.

Nor me. I tried making the drive channel of a JC-120 usable witha GE-7 once and it just didn't work for me. Why does Roland even bother with that function?

I've never heard that before! (Not that I doubt you.) I have a Fromel Shape EQ in the mail, does anyone know if that specific pedal adds hiss? Dang.

I don't have any noise issues with my EQ (MXR 10) - both at bedroom and gig levels
And to answer the OP's question...Yes, it just makes everything better. |
