Windows Updates...Watch Out!

I allowed windows to update some things yesterday (automatic updater). After the update, my Chrome browser could no longer access the computer cache. My computer would go into perpetual "waiting on cache" mode. I couldn't even shut the computer down via the task manager. I've done a clean re-install and am temporarily using IE9.

I'm not much into consperacies, but there was something hidden in those updates that forces you back into MS programs...JMO

Yes; upgrade to W7 from vista after the destruction yesterday. I backup once a week, so I'm mostly ok there.

I got burned on a service pack update from Windows 7 a few months ago. Ever since that upgrade which included IE9, my AMD video driver frequently stops responding and has to be recovered by the system (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and a reboot is needed.) Windows drivers and HP drivers don't play well together apparently, and this has me considering a move to an iMac

I use chrome on full updated XP and w7 machines. Do not have this problem.

^^^Yes, it mainly happens after updating the MS programs...

Don't think it won't happen to you.

Since I use Chrome I assume it will but I will not blame a MS update before seeing if it is a bug with the software first.

A system restore probably would have fixed your problem quick and easy.

Also I should add, I chatted with an MS tech last night trying to get some help to fix the freezing... he directed me to1-800-microsoft, at which point I was rejected until I purchased their assistance package $$$$$.

Yeah, I'm thinking MAC now too. How is MAC for running the MS Office programs? Anyone know? Got to have Word, Excel, PP, and that stuff for my business.

I wish. That was done. Not so quick and easy.

I really doubt Microsoft would push a system update that disables a competitor's software. I'm sure they'd love to, but it would probably get them into a considerable amount of legal trouble.

Yeah, let some lawyer try to prove that.

I agree. MS stopped fighting the browser wars a long time ago.

Two likely scenarios (not mutually exclusive):

1. MS cannot test the millions of configurations running Windows and problems will arise as updates are applied. It is absolutely unavoidable.

2. Google is not and never has been perfect. Chrome has all sorts of known and unknown bugs in it just like all other software on the planet.

Incompatibilities happen. IMHO, this is not tin foil hat territory.
