Become A Supporting Member By Purchasing An Annual Subscription

The Gear Page membership continues to rapidly grow. In December 2007 we had 23,000 members. By April 2009 that number had grown to over 44,000 members, which means that TGP is growing by approximately 1000 members every month. For several years we survived financially through the generosity of donations made by a small percentage of our members. In May 2008 we had to come up with another way of raising funds to keep up with costs. Rather than place ads on TGP, we chose to go with Supporting Memberships, which are now required to place ads in our emporium areas. It seems fair to ask those who benefit financially from being TGP members to help support the costs of running the website. The following describes what Subscriptions are and what you get for them:

Please note that if you are paying PayPal via an echeck, we don't receive the notification that changes a member to a subscribing member until the echeck clears PayPal! Also, in response to some questions asked, no, becoming a supporting member does NOT mean that you won't get infractions or a suspension if you break our rules. The same rules apply to everyone.
TGP will remain free for anyone who wants basic service on the website. We considered the possibility of allowing advertising but, based on membership feedback, we concluded that subscriptions were a better method of raising money and would be less offensive to most members. Again, no member will have to donate or purchase a “subscription”.
What is a “subscription”? It is a software-based mechanism where a member can purchase certain privileges on a monthly or year-by-year basis. We will have four different levels of subscription. Here are the membership levels:
Member: This is a totally free membership that allows members use of TGP with some limitations. Registered members may post and start threads in any of the topic areas EXCEPT that they cannot start threads in the emporiums. They can, however, post in reply to ads and will also have a Private Message box capacity of 40 PMs.
Supporting Member: The cost is $5 for a month or $12 for a year and allows subscribers the following:

100 PM limit
Silver Supporting Member: The cost is $25 for a year and allows subscribers the following:
Supporting Member perks plus:
Custom Title
200 PM limit
Gold Supporting Member: The cost is $50 for a year and allows subscribers the following:
Silver Member perks plus:
Avatar (no political, religious, rude or “lewd” avatars).
500 PM limit
