Here's what a Fender Heavy pick looks like after a few weeks on the road

LOL. He's put out 13 records and has played with Ry Cooder, Alejandro Escovedo and 100 more, so he sells tickets. He's just a creature of habit, I guess.

Here's what a Fender Heavy pick looks like after a few weeks on the road

Belongs to the fine roots-rocker and Austin favorite Jon Dee Graham. Well, here's the URL since as usual this site won't render a Flickr photo. What a drag. https://flic.kr/p/TYMcZP

Is there a pick like this?

Gotcha. I tried this one, kinda like it, but I just couldn't get the pick st the right angle. That made me wonder if there's one truly made for the first finger. But I'll try the one you suggest...

Is there a pick like this?

Thumb picks position the plectrum just like if you were holding a regular pick. But fingerpicks create a claw. Is there a pick you can wear on your first finger that puts the plectrum in the same spot as a thumb pick would? I've tried various odd thumb picks, even have heated them up to try to...

    First Act "Alnico 52" pickups?

Great answer, thank you! And you're right about the rings. I have one, need another. Anyone got one to sell me? Thanks again.

    First Act "Alnico 52" pickups?

I know the company put out a ton of cheap stuff and some custom shop stuff. But I can't find info on these pickups. Anyone?https://flic.kr/p/PSytfp

Why is UPS always so much more than eBay calculates?

Thanks for all the interesting replies. Lesson learned.

Why is UPS always so much more than eBay calculates?

I think I confused you. eBay asks me for all the shipping details when I post an item. Then it bills the buyer $28 for shipping on my behalf. When I click through to PayPal from eBAy, the cost TO ME is $48 and I lose $20. Nobody has really answered my question: why does eBay under-calculate...

Why is UPS always so much more than eBay calculates?

But wait: once the sale is final, eBay automatically bills the buyer for shipping. THAT AMOUNT shouldn't be based on shipping to MYSELF. eBay knows the guitar is going to the buyer! Why does eBay instantly calculate the shipping from me to VA as $28 and its own company PayPal calculate it at $48?

Why is UPS always so much more than eBay calculates?

I'm so done with fleaBay and so mad at myself. Yet again eBay "calculated" the postage on a guitar I sold ($28) and yet again when I hit "print mailing label" it takes me to PayPal where the cost FOR THE EXACT SAME SPECS I PUT INTO EBAY is $48. I always thought I was doing something wrong. Now I...

Is this wiring assembly worth much?

thanks, guys. The pot shafts themselves are solid, though not brass, with the top 3/8" notched straight down so the set screw has a flat surface to seat against. The tabs are just prongs, not the more modern eyelet type. The assembly worked fine before I yanked it out. But I can't see this...

Is this wiring assembly worth much?

Pots turn nice, measure 478k (volume) and 428k. From 1976. I took it out of a partscaster Tele. I can't imagine it sounds better than new versions but what do I know? Cap reads a stout .052mF. https://flic.kr/p/w1NZCt

What are your experiences with those early 70s Japanese Les Paul knockoffs?

I had a Cortez that had the Gibson script headstock, a set neck and a pretty sunburst. But it was the 1st generation Cortez, I think. Later ones had set necks, ugly headstocks, etc. And mine had a crappy zinc bridge and mushy pickups. Some of those guitars had narrow single coils in P90 or HB...

Help me price this early '60s Melody Maker?

Thank you everyone. FWIW, I asked Chicago Music Exchange (Reverb.com) what they'd give me and they said $475 cash. Said they'd price it at $675 in the store. It's a fun guitar, sounds like a rude child, and has perfect action if you can get your fingers in there. Funny thing is it has the...

Sparkling, chimey, twangy clean tone from a 2-hum guitar ?

THIS. It's why Reverend puts a bass-cut pot on its HB guitars. My favorite way is to wire up a Fender TBX pot (250k/1000k) with whatever cap you like on the 250k to roll off treble and a .001 on the 1000k. But a bigger cap is fine, for less cut. This pot is a center-detent, so you cut treble one...

Help me price this early '60s Melody Maker?

Sorry guys, but eBay is all over the map on this, and I can't find a similar one with the vibrato. Frets are good. Played hard but sounds good. Seems not to have the vibrato bar. IMG_2288 by Ftuhgnkcs, on Flickr

    Help ID these Strat pickups?

I think the two on the right are Texas Specials based on the purple wire. They meter 6.2 and 6.6k. Staggered pieces, not beveled. Would these be neck and middle or middle and bridge, based on the readings? The other, on the left, has the ubiquitous 016730 stamp on the plastic bobbin and meters...
