Alex's attenuator vs Ultimate attenuator for bedroom (ultra low) volumes

I had a Ho Attenuator as well as an Alex, a Hot Plate, and a Faustine Phantom. The Ho is the same as the Ultimate. I found that some attenuators sound better with some amps than others. The two I liked the best were the Phantom and the Alex. The Hot Plate sounds good on my Metro Amp but not as...

    Roland Jazz Chorus - JC

I have the separate head and cab version of this amp. Its the JC120-H. Hooked up to the two matching 4x12 cabs, the cleans and the chorus sound fantastic! I don't really use it for distortion at all whether with pedals or the built in distortion. My plan when I got it was to use an ABY box. The...

How to get effects on both channels with ABY switch?

The newer ones use a different switching system. As I said, my Hot Cat 30 combo uses the older style ABY box and you have to plug into the clean and distortion channels simultaneously. My Hot Cat 30R head uses the newer style switching where you plug into only one channel. The switching is done...

How to get effects on both channels with ABY switch?

I don't think its the ABY box itself thats the problem as far as tone goes. Something happens when you plug into the clean and distortion channels simultaneously on the bad Cat as opposed to plugging into into just one channel.

How to get effects on both channels with ABY switch?

I have a Bad Cat Hot Cat 30 combo with no loop just as you do. I also have a Hot Cat 30R head with loop. The combo uses the same ABY switching system like yours but my 30R head uses a different system. It has a cable that is 5 pin, I think, that screws into the footswitch pedal and the other end...

Boss DD-2 and RV-5 volume drop

I have a couple pedalboards that have different pedal switchers on them. One uses the Octaswitch and another uses the GigRig. One advantage to the GigRig over the Octaswitch is its ability to boost the volume of certain loops, if desired by the user, to make up for volume mismatches. Sorry I...

    Let's talk Soldano Amps !! !

The SLO is one of the all time great Rock amps. I really don't notice any fizz in mine. Mine is stock with no mods. I use mine with a Soldano 4x12 cab with V30's for the most part although I do have other cabs with Celestion Greenbacks as well as 75w speakers. I've also seen Warren Demartini...

    Let's talk Soldano Amps !! !

I like my Bogners as well but I also like my SLO 100. I don't really hear the fizz you mention but they are a bit tough to play out live at lower volumes. They do need to be turned up a bit but I think they do shine. The Bogners OTOH, I have an Uberschall and an Ecstasy 101B, have really good...

    Let's talk Soldano Amps !! !

Definetly. And this fizz thats being talked about by others, I don't hear it in a SLO at any volume. Now if I stop playing for a minute I can hear the fizz in my Diet 7-Up or Diet Pepsi sitting next to the amp. Are you guys sure its not your drinks fizzing? :bonk

    Let's talk Soldano Amps !! !

The Soldano SLO is one of the best amps ever! Every time plug into my SLO I end up playing it for much longer than I intended too. You just lose track of time with it. And Jim S' pix of his Soldanos are always great! :aok

Show your Custom Graphic Painted Guitars

Try Mike Learn. He does a lot of custom paint work for Jackson as well as others and regular people such as us :) His prices are reasonable and his work top notch! He has also done many horror themed guitars for people including even fretboard inlays with blood drips, zombies, etc... :aok...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

Thanks. Its a really nice playing and sounding guitar. Just needs some fret markers on it!

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

I love both Floyds and Kahlers. Oh, I'd definetly take that reverse headstock, pink, Jackson you guys don't want. I love guitars like that! :)

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

I did not see that show so I can't comment on his tone there. I did see Def Leppard live about 3 years ago however and his live tone with those PC1's was actually better than Vivian Campbell's tone with his Les Pauls! Not that Viv sounded bad its just that Phil's tone was even better!

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

His sig guitar is a Jackson PC-1. These are incredible guitars. Mahogany body, maple neck, Dimarzio pickups with a Floyd Rose trem and Sustainer pickup in the neck cavity. Construction and tone on these is top notch. The one I have is in a color called Purple Daze ;) The only downside I can...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

Whhile many hair bands may have jumped on the ADA bandwagon in the late 80's, the ADA was there after hair bands became big. Most of the mid 80's era stuff was still recorded using old Plexis, JCM 800's, etc... Anyway the ADA sound is not bad to me, thats why I still have mine from 1987 :)...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

I still stand by my original comment, even the singers listed above are not in the same league vocal wise as many cheesey hair bands. Half that Grunge stuff is talked not sung. As far as the ADA and Rockman stuff. Yeah those were big, I bought them new myself and still have them by the way. But...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

There's more to it than willing to tune. If you drop your tuning significantly you're usually better off also going up in string gauge. If not then you start to get a sort of flubby sound. For example, my band plays mostly in Eb tuning and for those guitars I use .009 strings. For the songs were...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

I'd hardly consider them classics. Their music is not all that memorable. There was indeed some good music in that "Hair" music, not just guitar wise either. The vocals on Grunge stuff are flat out boring and maybe if they're lucky 1% of their vocalists could even come close to hitting the high...

    Suhr vs Petrucci EBMM

I'm a Jackson guy so these guitars all have a different feel to me. I don't own a Suhr but I did buy an early EBMM Petrucci in Mystic Dream with the optional piezo. Its a fantastic guitar! Keep in mind that the pickups that come stock in this currently are a bit different than what they had...

Why do you think that Superstrats are no longer popular?

Superstrats not as popular? huh? thats news to me. Most of my guitars are Superstrats by the company that ruled the Superstrat market, Jackson/Charvel. I have other guitars such as Les Pauls and regular Strats but when I gig I take my Superstrats. Why? Because even if I don't use the Floyd Rose...

Sub $1500 amp that EXCELS from below bedroom to stage

Randall RM100, or the higher end Egnater Mod 50 you mentioned should do it. They have removable pre-amp modules with everything from Fender Blackface cleans to hot rodded Marshall sounds. Plus, there are guys modding these pre-amp modules even further. The RM100 is in the price range you asked...

    ToneFest version 2.011 - Ohio/Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan

I had a great time at last year's event and it is a bit of a drive for me. Depending on the date I'd like to do it again :) BTW, did we ever get the pix from that event from the photographer? I never saw them posted anywhere. As far as suggestions, that was a great studio to hold the event at...
