This isn't covered under Gibsons warranty?

If you want quality, buy Japanese! Heheh, when you were a kid did you EVER imagine that statement being true? *sigh* People used to shore up and reinforce the 335 bridges just as a matter of course. It's not necessary, but it is something that people used to do. Tt sure does sound like the guy...

    Higher Sample Rates really better?

Which was my standpoint in the argument I was making. I will not dispute that 96 khz is better overall for sound quality. You would have to be a fool to think otherwise. :hiPThe whole argument is based on the assumption of content delivery on either CD or DVD mediums. I have found that when I...

    Higher Sample Rates really better?

You'd be surprised how much of an improvement a good clock can make in a studio. This is why there are 1000/00 external clocks on the market. But anyway, I was going by scientific method. I wasn't there in the room so I could not say which sounded better. One has to remember that a lot of this...

    Higher Sample Rates really better?

Kenny, did you listen to the mix via the 192's clock at 48 khz? Because without that comparison, you cannot eliminate the clock as a quality factor, making your test moot and useless :) You have to have a control to sample and compare... -Z

Any more affordable versions of the U87 out there?

I have a C1 that I stripped down and rebuilt with higher quality components. It REALLY smoothed things over. If I could get a really nice gold diaphragm replacement I'd be tempted to try that as well. -Z

Any more affordable versions of the U87 out there?

No worries from me. Just pointing out that even at 1200 bucks for the Peluso, a great deal to be sure... I think this is beyond the original idea of affordable :D I got a chance to demo a few Peluso mics. Although the condensers and valve mices were good, my favorite was the R 14 Ribbon. At 650...

It is Alchemy, not science ;) Although there does tend to be a whole lotta measuring going on! It's like magic with the structure of science... It's Hermetic Harmonies! -Z

    Recording guitar direct... your thoughts?

Guitar Rig 3 has some more interesting models in it. And the delays are really nice. But I can hear some aliasing in the guitar amps. They also don't take outside pedals well. Like, if you have a tube screamer you want to use with GR3, you will hear some weird high end noises in there. In my...

    Higher Sample Rates really better?

I'll be honest. Recording at 96 khz isn't really necessary unless you have an orchestra, strings, piano, or some other multi-range acoustic source. For most projects, 48 khz is all you'd ever need. Some plugins, like amp sims, sound better at 96 khz. Like Guitar Rig 3. That sounds better at...

Any more affordable versions of the U87 out there?

The best is the Sony C-800 GPAC :) You too can own one of those heatsink-bearing beauties for a mere installment of 6,999.95! :D But OP, tae a look at the Project Studios C1 and see if that fits your budget. I think you can get one for 220. It IS Chinese, but if you want cheap they are well...

Oh, yeah that's probably it. The USB drives, even the 2.0 spec, just don't have the bandwidth to read and write fast enough to not get errors. -Z

Any more affordable versions of the U87 out there?

The Studio Projects C1 is a u87 with cheap parts. Buy one for about 200 bucks, check the part values, and pop in some wimas, omite and whatever else... :) On a side note, the u87 is dated and it doesn't work for every voice. If you have a voice like ... say, David Crosby or Graham Nash, the u87...

    HIWATT(custom 100) DR103 owners ....

The originals used Partridge transformers. Which are now pretty hard to find. They are huge, heavy buggers that store a LOT of power. What this does in practical terms, is that it compressed the guitar sound a good bit more than the newer ones. I have a Reeves and a 74 Hiwatt that sound almost...

    HIWATT(custom 100) DR103 owners ....

Well I run a Reeves 4x12 with 4 Fanes from the early 70's, and a Marshall 1982B with 100w celestions with the 74 Hiwatt 100. I use a Reeves 2x12 with half of a Marshall 1960B for the Reeves 50. Now, the Reeves Custom 50 DOES get a nice crunch going when you crank it up. Sounds like pure The...

So what does TGP think about this Fractal Audio Axe-FX?

Look. There are way too many threads on the subject, and until now I haven't said anything. But I'll give you my short review of the Axe-FX. I borrowed one for a couple weeks from a friend of mine to test it out. I put it up against my tube amps, Waves GTR, etc etc. Anything I could get a demo...

    HIWATT(custom 100) DR103 owners ....

The modern ones are different? See all I have is a Reeves Custom and a vintage 1974 DR103 with old Mullard glass in it. Both these amps remain clean up until ear bleed levels. And at that point I can't say with any reasonable certainty that it wasn't my ears that were breaking up :P -Z

    HIWATT(custom 100) DR103 owners ....

Unless you use a power break or attenuator... you'll blow your windows out before a Hiwatt overdrives. They are designed to be clean and remain clean at all levels. Because, originally, they were designed as a PA amplifier. You could have as many as 4 instruments going at the same time...

    Mackie Onyx Pre's

Yeah, you need a mic more than a preamp I think. :) Some people mesh with certain mics. In a studio, a vocalist can try out as many as 8 high quality mics and not find a match for their voice. I had a girlfriend once who only sounded good on ribbon mics. -Z

    V-Picks review

First off... the chirp :D Yeah I know exactly what you mean. One of the guitarists in Iron Maiden uses a V-Pick and it chirps like mad. Does anyone know how the V-Picks compare to the Weger gypsy picks? -Z
