i'm up to 14 now.
i still gas for more, normally to give me options for live work and recording.
it's always the inherent sound / playability that does it for me, although the shape does sometimes have an effect.
i tend to approach it like any tradesman, a chippie (Carpenter) will own more...
like wise. the muff for gtr generally is meh for me, but on bass it's great!
can i suggest you give the bass big muff a try. It doesn't seem to have as much gain available as the others, but is voiced really well for bass. It's supposedly based (!) around the green ussr muff, but also has a...
can i add my £0.02?
the marshall is a great reverb pedal. people tend to ignore it because it's not boutique, and seen as a budget option.
I'm sure the switch issue the previous poster had is the exception rather than the rule though. all of my marshall pedals get loads of use and i have never...
^^^ so true
i have lots of differing muffs (snigger!!) but the Bass big muff is superb value for money and pretty much perfect for most bass players.
not only does it have the blend feature, but it also has something close to the green ussr muff sound in there
The M80 is a great tool, but the distortion channel can be a real love it or hate it deal.
the key is found in the blend control. I use the blended drive with the knob around the 11:30 mark and gain around 3:00, and this gets used quite a bit for more edgy kind of stuff.
All in all it's almost...
obligatory mxr m80 bass DI+ suggestion
great sound, not just a clone of a well known amp manufacturer's product. has a seperate blendable distortion channel too.
EHX make some really good stuff for bass. the Bass big muff is seen on a load of boards across TB and basschat.
there are all kinds of options open to you. the best advice is to try everything - if it doesn't work for you not a problem, but you might find something worth shouting about!
any geezer butler (sabbath)
steve harris (maiden)
cliff burton (metallica) particularly Master of Puppets
ray brown,
anyone that played with miles davis,
there is the new fleabass too. not too sure about US retail, but worth consideration
Ihave a dearmond Jetstar (it is the version with the chrome pick ups not the one with the p PU.). man- what a bass. every time it goes out with me, i have people try to buy it!
I'm sure you'll be able to find...
it really depends on the application.
if you want that svt-ish sound then the sansamp is the way to go (or the Behringer come to that), the leading competitors otherwise seem to be the MXR Bass di+, Aguilar Tone hammer. Both of these get rave reviews.
Personally, i never really liked the SA...
i used to get this quite often.
i now make sure that i warm up properly before we start our set, then i don't get troubled with it.
If it continues after you've spent time warming up, then you should seek medical advice
TBH i've nothing but bad stuff about these units.
by far the best bass specific wireless i found is the Nady encore 2 bass system.
Price wise it's about £100, but it out performs that price bracket by a long way!
imo the marshall pedals represent some of the best bang for buck sounds out there.
great pedals, easy to get hold of, great price - what else is there?
if you want something different to the sansamp - being bass specific, have you thought about the MXR M80 bass DI+, or the Hartke VXL? there are a thousand different opinions on these on the talkbass and basschat forums.
Sadowsky have recently introduced the tone hammer, but i don't have...
as it is at the moment, all though the LoMenzo Hyperdrive is not there but on another board at the minute.
as it was a little while ago
and as it began, with some extras
I love my jet star, it's solid, tight sound is great for so many stuations. i've used it for jazz gigs, worship, metal shows, rock shows, soul etc......
it's neck thru, and as it turns out, quite rare in the uk, especially with this pickup combination. I wouldn't part with it for anything.
