Big Wreck 7.2 - might be their best 5 songs ever

Just to bump this thread yet again..... there seems to be little fanfare/promotion for this EP out on the interwebs. So amongst all the noise I keep shouting and pointing. I also paint portraits as a hobby. Some of my latest....

Here's a fiery version of an old staple "Look What I Found" with CC taking the solo! PS I never really had an issue with BFTS like many others have had.

Modern Slide Guitar and the Future to Come

Here's a retro leaning tune from Big Wreck's latest. Loose groove where slide serves the tune. The slide is mostly flavor and haunting atmospheric orchestration. The solo is pretty typical fiery/tasty Ian. Rye Bread Then there's this anthemic beast. It has that massive slab of swampy metal...

Big Wreck 7.2 - might be their best 5 songs ever

As near as I can figure it was '98 when they opened for Creed for me at the Tradewinds! I just checked setlist.com. Opened for Dream Theater in Nov. 97, Creed Feb 98. But they did play there again as a headliner with not that many in the crowd. I cannot find that on Setlist. I remember it...

Woo boy! New Big Wreck day!

I LOVE the tight, muscular, warm grooves that Big Wreck have generated in these past near 25 years. On record Ian's solos are more dance-like if that could be a thing. They go to an intentional, emotional place. They serve the song. Live it's a whole other thing. Recently Big Wreck in Niagara...

Big Wreck 7.2 - might be their best 5 songs ever

Recently Big Wreck in Niagara. I love how the second solo section in Ghosts has evolved. He goes on a discordant jazz saxophone-like run then it breaks back into this intense rise, then back out into that cool Law and Order theme just for fun. They are so good live!

Woo boy! New Big Wreck day!

"Then onto the bubbling bed, steps the solo! Loose and jangly, this is the second best extended solo of this collection, to me. There is one better that is coming. This one weaves in and out of the rhythm swinging from the posts, making dotted arcs, bordering on dissolving into metallic harmonic...

Big Wreck 7.2 - might be their best 5 songs ever

I know I sound like a shill. The messenger is flawed, but the message is worthy. If you've never given Big Wreck a shot, do it now. Draws on classic roots but is a powerfully forward looking statement. 25 years in and Ian is making some of the best music in his catalog. I fanboy gushed about it...

    Black Crowes Lions

I feel like By Your Side (my favorite Crowes album... I like tight, well produced, upbeat rock) was somehow romancing Jimmy Page (Horsehead, Heavy, Go Faster and all that Big Band Zep riffage, etc) and then they experienced Jimmy and his looseness is all over Lions. That's how I look at it.
