It took me owning 4 others and playing a few hundred more - but I scored the Magic Les Paul Standard....this thing is just awesome. Acoustically this guitar rings like a bell...The stock 490 / 498 pups left a major bit to be desired so I yanked them out and sent them to Wolfetone for his "Marshallhead" rewind....in the meantime I lucked into a set of WCR Goodwood pups and an RS wiring upgrade kit. All I can say is ohmyfreakinggawd - this thing sounds absolutley insane now. I really can't say enough about what an amazing superior upgrade these pups were - I'm a believer. I doubt the Wolfe's will go in here now.
Really an amazing guitar. It literally sat unplayed in it's case for the last four years...it's comes to life more each time I pick it up...very Page'ish in color in person.

Wow..that's a gorgeous axe!! Congrats!! I feel the same way about my R9 Authentic. Incidentally mine is loaded similar to your. I have WCR pickups (Darkburst in bridge and Goodwood in neck) and the RS wiring kit and she sounds astounding!!!!! Weighs in in the very low 8 lb range and has a resonance and tone that defies description.

Ok, I'll take one of everything in those pictures!:D Nice LP man! I'm pretty sure that will be the next style guitar I purchase.

Sounds like you need to buy another Les Paul to put the "Marshallheads" in!

Thats a prescription that works fine by me!!

Nice guitar, there is nothing like a good Les Paul, despite what anyone says.

Scott, the RS kit can be found here...

It is basically an upgrade of the stock pots and caps, I've put them in 3 LP's and have yet to be dissapointed.

I think Gibson must have done some good ones during this time. I'd like to think so because mine is a late '01 Standard. Light honeyburst, with a reverse chevron type flame (similar to yours, wider flame but not as much figure), 8.2lbs, fat 50's neck profile.

WCR Darkburst Bridge, and Crossroads Neck, Zebra bobbins (covers on for now) RS Kit! My LP has finally arrived!:RoCkIn

That's a beauty. I'm a big fan of the Goodwood/Les Paul combo. I did the same upgrade to my R8 and she just sings.

I'm loving the enthusiasm in your post. I know how it feels, some people don't get it, but when you get THAT Les Paul.....there's just nothing like it.:BEER

Still just in love with this guitar a couple of months down the road...only change I'm making is getting some covers put on the pups by Jim @WCR (something was not looking right on this guitar...) Scored a 1990 Marshall 4x12 checkerboard cab, the LP into the Aiken into that cab is just insane....an incoming Cameron modded 1959SLP should really do the trick.

I hear Ya!! I gave up on LPs a few years ago and went with Hamer. I love Hamer Studios and Artists and will own another some day, but they never could give me the LP tone I was looking for. Earlier this year, a good friend sold me his Custom Shop '68 LP Custom Authentic. I installed WCR Crossroads w/ the RS kit and I'm finally "there" tonally:JAM . Here's a pic:

I just put in the RS Kit and a Goodwood in the Bridge and a Darkburst in the neck of my Les Paul Custom.... HUGE difference. I would have never believed it, but the clarity and warmth is amazing.
