That's a little grim tom, but i guess he shoulda' turned north and headed back tword the golden street city.... I'll be the pollyanna and say the OP is blissfully strumming and re-tunning his new pawn shop find and re-tunning and re-tunning ...damn cheap guitar
there was apparently a zero haggling policy in effect at EVERY SINGLE shop (7) i hit on that Saturday. guitars tagged at $129 and they wouldn't move down to $108 out the door!
Two buddies and I split a table ($22 each) at a musicians flea market a few weeks back. There were two pawn shop owners (partners) who bought absolute junk from me.
Ex: Two speaker stands that were spray painted black then all banged up on top of that which I sold for $10 for the pair. Profit: $10 because I got them for free.
Three 10' patch cable snakes 1/4" to 1/4", 1/4" to RCA, and RCA to RCA for $20. I sold them for $20 for all three at a profit of $20. They were also given to me in lieu of being thrown out by someone that I worked with.
Both times, the guy looked at me and said, really??? and reached for his wallet. Easy transactions.
The funny part is that this cat came over about 20 times trying to buy my 2X12 road case which was not for sale and only used to transport the 2X12 that I was selling.
I told him that it wasn't for sale and he started with about three $50 offers, then a few $75 offers, and about a dozen $80 offers. I'm convinced that he was just trying to wear me down. I almost paid him $100 just to leave me alone.
He also tried to beat me up on a few very fairly priced pedals and a Mackie mixer. He was relentless! I swear that he was coked up too. Way too jittery and shifty for a Sunday morning / afternoon. Very high strung and intense.
My buddy was trying to get a decent deal on a '73 Fender Twin, but the same guy wouldn't budge on his price at all.
In this economy, everyone expects you to sell your gear at crackhead prices, but they want near new prices for their stuff and won't budge when you try to haggle. I swear that if I gave away stuff for free that day, these jokers would expect me to carry it out to their car for them. Absolute foolishness.
...Hey Germs,...Just got a phone call a couple of hours ago from another musician,...Seems our friends at GC are selling mitchell acoustics for $69. new this weekend for it's presidents sale...I DO know a guy that bought one last year for a campfire guitar, I've not seen/heard it,...But, I heard from others, That it wasn't really ALL that bad, and perfect for players that are NOT all that into having a mid to big $$$ flat-top laying around that they would hardly play. I know before Mr. Mitchell started GC, his guitars were highly revered...Sorta' like the First Act guys, before they let Wal-Mart prostitute them. Man, that would leave you enough money for strings and a 6-pack (if that would fly being a bit South of Heaven)..... (LOL). Tom
