100-Watt Marshall on "10" with Good Attenuator -- Still Too Loud?

Just wondering how loud I might be able to crank a 100-watt Marshall-style amp, run it through one of the great new attenuators available (like an Aracom), retain great tone, and not go deaf, have cops knocking on my door, etc. Let's say I run the attenuated amp through a 2x12. Is this realistic? Thanks!

Absolutely. Works fine with mine, even my wife is happy, sound guys love it too-

Won't sound exactly the same, but it will keep the cops off the doorstep and keep your ears intact.

It can be done. I did it with an Ultimate Attenuator and was able to get a 100 watt Hiwatt down to conversation levels while still sounding pretty damn good.

Awesome - thanks. I think I'll pull the trigger on this 100-watt Metropoulos. I love the big sound of a 100-watt plexi.

100-watt Metro -- I'm jealous. That's the ultimate plexi clone IMO.

I also second, third, fourth the fact that that you can get it down to bedroom levels.

And in case it matters, remember that a 50-watter is just about as loud as a 100-watter. Your ears might not be able to hear the diff.

You'll be able to get that amp down to loud conversation levels with the Aracom. I doubt you'll get it cranked down to whisper levels fully cranked, but it'll definitely be much more controllable - and not ear-splitting. :)
