I need a 12 inch speaker for a homebrew stock 5E3. I would really like something not especially high end ( Budget) But I want something that captures the tight crisp highs without the bottom end getting to flabby.

I see a lot of Jensen Mods easily affordable but I have no experience with any of the current new production speakers.

MOD12-35-8 35Wceramic

Or are the Vintage series better, Something like

C12R-8 25W ceramic

Now I realize that these are not high end speakers, But I am looking for a fairly budget minded speaker that works good, Not The Best of the best, Which I wish I could spring for.

Any Comments? Sugestions?

Perhaps try the Eminence Legend 122 (alinico) or 125 (ceramic). Both very nice speakers and are reasonably priced.

Oh I Wish I could put a Celestion Blue in there.

I have been playing/testing it with a celestion G12K-85 and that speaker sounds awesome, But, Its a speaker that I robbed from another amp. I need to put it back and get something that at least sounds ok.

I tried some heppner alnico magnet speakers that I pulled from an old organ, They were not even good enough to rate being called aweful! PUKE.

Hopefully I can locate something similar in tone to the celestion. I had an old Jensen/Branded Motorola Golden Voice ceramic magnet that was very close to perfect but it ended up in a champ I gave to my brother for recording.

I am telling you right now, hands down. Get a Weber 12A125. It is the exact thing you described in your post. It's what I have in my 5E3 and couldn't be happier espically for $100!! Make sure to go light on the dope and IMO the 30 watt version gives better lowend.

You haven't said what your budget is. Email Ted Weber and let him know what you're trying to accomplish. He's a great guy and will respond in a reasonable amount of time.

Good Luck

I have a Weber Cali 12 (paper dust cap) in my '54 Deluxe, which made it into a little fire-breathing monster. I would never change out that speaker.

Guess I was hoping for a $50.00 fix, But it looks like I need to double that.

Is a Greenback Decent? I can get these to the door for $100.00

SPEAKER, 12" CELESTION G12M "GREENBACK", 25 W, 8 OHM
G12M-8

Or these for $110.00

SPEAKER, 12" CELESTION G12H, 30 W, 8 OHM, ANNIVERSARY EDITION
G12H-8

Weber Signature series is well within your $50 budget, even for an alnico 12". They sound fabulous, too!

Actually I'd go heavy on the dope. That way ANY speaker would sound good.

I've actually gotten really good results with a Mojo G12H30 (30H they call it). Find a used one for a budget price. new ones are not too terribly high.
Texas heat works well in that amp as well. As does the red fang.

I've never been a big Jensen fan for some reason. I have a customer that just ordered one from me with a weber 12A125S in it. I look forward to hearing it as I've not had a chance to mess with one as of yet.

So, The General consences is buy Weber 12A125 weber speaker on budget, Or Save for a Blue.

I sure wish I could find another G12K-85 celestion. I put the anti-flubber caps in the first coupling section, (.047 instead of .1) and got a lot better bass/flubber control.
These deluxes just sound So damn good! I know the G12K-85 is really overkill as far as what is needed wattage wise, But it is the only decent test speaker I have laying around.

Are any of the Celestion Silver Series any good ? Say the V12-60-8
I am not exactly a fan of new production Jensens and I have had good long term luck with my old 80's amps that had the G12K's.

Got one of the SS 12s in the 5E3 clone I built. Weber had a sale on these plus other Sig speakers. $35 + $17 shipping.
