    Hi,
I inherited a Tokai electric guitar a few years back and thought I'd better get it valued for insurance. I've searched and searched the internet for the exact details on it and I think it's a 1985 Tokay LS-80 but I'm not 100% convinced it hasn't been altered as the front headstock doesn't have the 'Love Rock' text that all the photos I have found seem to have.

Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

    Chris

Well, the machine heads have been changed, you can see the old mounting holes.

Is it possible the 'Love Rock' text has simply rubbed off?

You might get some more detailed response at the 'Other Single Cuts' section at the MyLesPaul forum, lots of experts there.

Plain top Love Rocks, well, rock! The color on the top doesn't look like typical Tokai -maybe the whole guitar got refinished and the silkscreened Love Rock logo was painted over in the process? Just a theory.

The used prices on those are all over the place.. Nicer top's I have seen going for $1k to $2k.. But I have also seen some of the plain tops go from $400 to $800.. It all depends on what it is worth to you I guess. Is it on the top of your "keeper" list..? Can you replace it if need be..? Basically it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it..

Ls-80 should have the 17° headstock, nitro finish in that year. Though in '85 they did start to change.

Def is refinished. Weird they would leave tokai and get rid of 'Love Rock'.

How many piece back? Is the first number a 5?.

Stock it would be worth up to 18, but normally the one's that go much higher are'79 through'82.

Around a grand, I would guess, tops. But a great guitar for a player.

Of course, but most of the members are also active on MLP's Other Single Cuts section, plus a few other folks too. I think MLP might be a bit more lively a forum nowadays.
