1988 G&L SC-3 + schaller strap locks = bad or good for wood?

OK so the title might be a little misleading...

When I installed these Schaller strap locks today on my G&L, I used the stock screws but when reinstalling it was really hard to get them all the way in. Should I worry about the wood stress-cracking? (When things got tough, I backed off a few turns and then proceeded, repeating this a few times when putting in the upper horn's strap button)

And, 2nd question: I also installed the longer Schaller screws in my Schecters because the stock screws didn't fit / were too loose when installing the strap buttons, but it was easy to get the longer screws in that Schecter (crappy) wood. No worries there? I mean irrespective of your opinion on the brand.

Thanks for any experienced opinions here!

Bump, and...

mellecaster, I'm not sure what you're getting at in terms of my question. But, I'll be sure to use wax for my next guitar's strap lock installation.

well, i don't see your guitar body exploding into pieces anytime soon, so i wouldn't worry about it.
